Fans are now shipping the widower Danny to his colleague Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) who’s been working with him since season 3. Since Danny’s late wife Linda (Amy Carlson) died years ago, his life has been revolving around raising his son and solving crimes.
There were more job partners who worked with Danny, but none of them stayed longer than Baez. Originally, the show had Jackie Curatola (Jennifer Esposito) from season 1 to 3. The character left the show after she realized there’s more to life than work. However, in reality, Esposito can only work for a very limited time due to her schedule which made the showrunners put her character on a leave of absence.
Blue Bloods Spoilers – The Hints
A closer Danny and Baez in season 11 brewed the viewers’ desire for them to end up together. In the 8th episode titled “More Than Meets The Eye” the duo were on a mission to find a serial killer. Baez has become a plunger going through dangerous situations alone. She hurt her leg, and for the first time, Danny invited her over for a family dinner.
In the end, Baez caught the culprit but a concerned Danny asked her not to do it again. Ironically, Danny does it all the time, so Baez reacted. “I don’t want you to be like Danny Reagan… Because I like Maria Baez,” he explained.
The following episode titled “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” showed Baez finding a corpse in front of her yard. She recognized the body and revealed to Danny she dated him and the atmosphere got awkward when he asked her why. “Maybe that can just be enough for now,” Baez ended.
Will the detectives do something about their mutual feelings?
Blue Bloods Spoilers – The Confirmation
Fortunately, fans don’t have to wait long to figure out if their ship will sail or sink since showrunner Kevin Wade has addressed this matter.
Speaking to TV Insider, Wade confirmed: “We recognize it and certainly the actors like each other, in front of the camera and between setups.”
However, there’s a big block to this developing relationship as Wade explained: “I’m gonna use Sam and Diane from Cheers and really age myself here, but once it happens, there’s nowhere to go.”
“There really aren’t stories in happy couples, and there are definitely not stories in police detectives on the job having a personal relationship with their partner,” he explained.
Now it appears that the detectives will not cross the line as Wade revealed he would’ve to find new partners for the pair. It’s also a struggle for them to find ways to tell their own stories.
“But we have so little real estate as the show grows, as we bring in a guy like Will Hochman playing Joe Hill, as we play Whoopi [Goldberg] or Dylan Walsh as the mayor. It’s 43 minutes and we have to keep an eye on what we have room for.”
