Sean Reagan Is Now A Cop
Danny Reagan is set to bring a familiar face from Blue Bloods to Boston Blue — but this character will appear quite different to fans of the CBS series.
In this spin-off, Donnie Wahlberg returns as NYPD Officer Danny Reagan, transitioning to the Boston Police Department, where he teams up with Detective Lena Silver (portrayed by Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a well-known law enforcement family.
As for the reason behind Danny’s relocation, it seems as if it’s his younger son, Sean Reagan, who has taken on the role of a patrolman with the Boston PD.
His older son, Jack Reagan (Tony Terracino) went off to college on the Blue Bloods show and didn’t appear very often in the later episodes.

Sean Wanted To Carry On The Family Legacy But On His Own Terms
Sean dedicated himself to carrying on his family’s legacy, but he aimed to do it according to his own wishes, which involved joining a department away from his hometown. That’s what the official character description states, as reported by TVLine.
Danny’s choice to move to Boston provides this father-son pair an opportunity to bond on a more profound level.
Sean’s move indicates that the character will be present full-time in the new series — however, Mika Amonsen (The Republic of Sarah, Hudson & Rex) will assume the role as a series regular.
Who Else Will Appear In Boston Blue?

Alongside Wahlberg, Martin-Green, and Amonsen, Maggie Lawson from Psych plays Lena’s “strong-willed and decisive” stepsister, Sarah Silver, who serves as a Superintendent in the Boston PD.
This role often puts her in a position where she must balance her professional responsibilities with her family obligations.
The cast also features ER veteran Gloria Reuben as Lena’s widowed mother, Mae Silver, who holds the position of District Attorney in Boston.
Despite the demands of her prominent career, Mae strives to prioritize her blended family over her work whenever she can. Tragically, she lost her husband, a judge, who was murdered right on the courthouse steps.
Rounding Out The Silvers, And Will Other Reagans Appear?
Marcus Scribner, known for his role in Black-ish, takes on the character of Jonah, the youngest member of the Silver family and a rookie police officer. Joining him is Ernie Hudson, who plays the role of the patriarch of the Silver family, reminiscent of Tom Selleck.
Hudson will depict Reverend Peters, Lena’s grandfather and Mae’s father, who is a well-respected and progressive pastor at a historic Baptist church in Boston.
As for the possibility of other Blue Bloods characters making an appearance, Wahlberg stated, “Danny’s story will continue the Reagan family’s. You can’t have Danny without Reagans.”
He further mentioned that “there’ll be connective tissue to the old family, but also going to discover a new family while still sharing the Reagan stories.
The Reagans Have Appearance Options, Wahlburg Also Posted A Promo
In an interview with Parade, the actor mentioned that “New York and Boston are really close. They’re not that far apart,” and that there are “a lot of possible ways for people to drop in on us,” such as FaceTime and Zoom.
CBS has not yet revealed a premiere date for the series, but show is set to air this fall on Fridays at 10/9c (the same timeslot as Blue Bloods during its run).
As for a preview, there isn’t one yet; however, Wahlberg did post a quick promo on Instagram (which unfortunately features old footage) to promote the show’s fall launch.
He wrote, “So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you.”
