Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot On Its Way – Sarah Michelle Gellar Returns As Hulu Pilot Order Nearing

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot On Its Way – Sarah Michelle Gellar Returns As Hulu Pilot Order NearingAfter over 20 years have passed since the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series ended, it looks like the franchise is set to tell more stories. According to Deadline, a follow-up series is getting closer to a pilot order from Hulu, with Sarah Michelle Gellar expected to lead the cast and Oscar winner (and self-professed Buffy fan), Chloé Zhao, slated to direct the pilot.

The reboot will start a writers’ room shortly, a signal that Hulu and the studios have good expectations that the pilot could turn into a full-fledged series.

The Buffy Reboot – Partners Involved

It’s being described as the next chapter in the Buffyverse, and it is said that Gellar will reprise her Buffy Summers role.

This new story in the franchise will have Gellar as an executive producer, as well as Zhao, writers, Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, and the original Buffy’s’ series executive producers Jackal Group’s Gail Berman, and Suite B’s Fran Kuzui & Kaz Kuzui via Suite B.

In addition, Dolly Parton will be an executive producer on the pilot, as, interestingly enough, her company, Sandollar was a producer on the original Buffy, too.

It’s important to note that Joss Whedon, Buffy creator and the one who wrote the 1992 flick the show was based on, will have no involvement with this reboot.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer  – What Fans Can Expect From The Buffy Reboot

If the pilot ends up becoming a series, it’ll be the third installment in the Buffy series franchise, with the original show airing for seven seasons (five on WB and two on UPN), as well as a spinoff ‘Angel’, which enjoyed five seasons on WB, as well.

Parton hinted about a year ago that a Buffy return was in the making, noting in an interview that, “They’re still working on that. They’re thinking about bringing it back and revamping it.”

Meanwhile, Gellar had been against the idea of a reboot for a long while, until this past December when she expressed some interest while promoting the Original Sin, a Dexter prequel series. She noted, “It’s funny, I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble and it’s so perfect.”

Still, she goes on to say, “But watching Sex and the City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.’”
