Chicago Fire Spoilers: Will Casey Finally Make A Move On Brett After ‘Epiphany’ Moment?

Chicago Fire: Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer)Chicago Fire spoilers and updates reveal Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) received an unexpected revelation from Greg Grainger (Jon-Michael Ecker). The captain, who was all set to clarify things, was taken aback when fellow firefighter Greg revealed how Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) was feeling for him.

Matthew Casey Tries To Be Chivalrous

Casey just wanted to make it clear with Greg, who’s with Sylvie as of the moment, that he’s out of the dating game for good. Instead of settling this issue once and for all, Casey was surprised to learn that Sylvie has feelings for him. What’s even more unexpected is that the intel came from Greg.

“Chicago Fire” showrunner Derek Haas said that the intense conversation between Casey and Greg was “like water being thrown in your face,” for the former.

“You can tell him that it’s one thing to have these thoughts inside your own head and be wondering how other people are thinking,” Hass said.

Matthew Casey Gets A Dose of Reality

“And then to hear it from somebody who’s been dating her that, ‘Hey, guess what, buddy? She’s in love with you,’ is like water being thrown in your face,” Haas explains.

What Casey wanted was to do this “chivalric gesture” and say “hey, man. Just so you know, you’re a great guy and I’m taking a step back,” Haas said.

But Greg’s response was unexpected. He was like “You don’t freaking get it, man. I don’t care what you think. It’s her. She’s in love with you,” Hass continued.

It’s an “eye-opening” moment for Casey and he needs to make a decision, fast.

“Does he try to, at this point, let his feelings known again? Does he try to reconcile with or take her original advice and talk to Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund)? There are a lot of things still left in this season,” the showrunner teased.

Resolving The Gabby Factor

However, there are many issues that Casey needs to resolve before he can finally go to Sylvie and say he’s ready to move on. He needs to deal with Gabby and until then, Sylvie will remain “unavailable.”

How about Monica Raymund? Haas tried to keep as little information as possible as there are three more episodes left before the ninth season ends.

“You’re going to have to wait and see. You’ll know in a month. All options are on the table,” Haas teased.

He also made it clear that things need to “come organically from the characters.” He explained that viewers witnessed Casey and Gabby’s journey together for six years and Sylvie saw them together for three years. The show had to make it clear that they care about their history.

“And so if we had gone too fast, it would have just seemed like we did not care about our show’s history,” Haas said.

“You can say a lot of things about Chicago Fire, but I feel like more than a ton of shows, we are invested in what had come before us,” he added. Whether it’s time for Casey and Brett to be together, Haas simply said he doesn’t know.
