Ellen Pompeo Wants More Social Issues Episodes On ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Ellen Pompeo “Grey’s Anatomy” spoilers, news, and updates tease that Ellen Pompeo wanted to air more about social issues on the show. The longest-running medical drama was renewed for Season 19 and it will feature a new crop of interns, including Harry Shum Jr., Alexis Floyd, Niko Terho, Midori Francis, and Adelaide Kane. However, the finale of Season 18 found Grey Sloan losing its residency, so it is still unclear how the new characters will work into the story.

The chairman of entertainment at Walt Disney Television, Dana Walden, praised the medical drama for its longevity. She acknowledged the hard work of the showrunner Shonda Rhimes, the producers Krista Vernoff, Ellen Pompeo, and the entire creative team for giving a great storyline to the show. “Grey’s Anatomy is a true phenomenon, beloved by audiences around the world,” Walden stated per EW.

Ellen Pompeo – Wishes to Talk More About Social Issues On The Show

Ellen Pompeo plays the iconic role of Dr. Meredith Grey as well as the executive producer of the soap. In her latest episode of her “Tell Me” podcast, she expressed her desire to not tackle some social issues in just one episode, but also to extend it to the next ones.

“It’s like… we do one episode about… let’s see… Asian hate crimes are one that we did this past season that was really moving. I think I’d like to see things happen a little more subtly and over time. You know, consistently and less sort of hitting you over the head for just one hour, and then we never talk about it again,” she uttered.

Ellen Pompeo  – Joins Hulu’s Limited Series

Though she will continue to portray her iconic role, Ellen Pompeo will appear less in the upcoming Season 19 of “Grey’s Anatomy” to star in the limited series of Hulu. The 52-year-old actress joined the cast of the upcoming series, which is based on a true story of an American couple, Kristine Barnett and Michael Barnett.

The couple adopted a Ukrainian-born orphan named Natalia Grace, who is believed to have a rare form of dwarfism that makes the adoptive parents think she is an 8-year-old girl, but actually an adult “sociopath.”

The untitled orphan project will be Pompeo’s major role since she landed to play Dr. Meredith Grey in the medical drama. She will also act as an executive producer of the eight-episode series from creator and writer, Katie Robbins.
