The Golden Globes 2024 nominations reveal some shockers. And among them, a snub for Yellowstone stunned the show’s fans.
Find out about the other surprises in the award show nominations. And keep reading to learn when and where to watch the Golden Globes.
Golden Globe 2024 – Nominations Snub Yellowstone
Yellowstone fans felt certain that the show would receive multiple awards this year. But the Hollywood Foreign Press Association just announced its 2024 nominations. And among the shockers, the organization snubbed Yellowstone, noted TV Insider.
However, some surprises delighted TV viewers. For instance, Lessons in Chemistry and Daisy Jones & The Six both scored nominations. And Jury Duty proved a nomination winner as well.
However, in a somewhat predictable situation, Greta Gerwig’s beloved Barbie movie topped the nominations for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. And the 10 total nominations makes Barbie the most-nominated in the show’s 81-year history in a tie with Cabaret, per MSN.
Oppenheimer Scores 8 Nominations
But while a movie about a doll topped the list, Oppenheimer also scored in the 2024 Golden Globes nominations. And Christopher Nolan’s exploration of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the development of the atomic bomb received eight nominations.
Because the Golden Globes give awards to both television and film, the ceremony doesn’t include specializations such as editing and cinematography. However, the awards do separate out film genres, distinguishing musicals and comedies in different categories from dramas.
As a result, Oppenheimer will vie for the best drama against Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest and Past Lives. And Barbie will compete for best comedy or musical against Air, American Fiction, Poor Things, May December, and The Holdovers.
Netflix Tops Media Company List
Other shows that the Golden Globes singled out for nominations include Succession from HBO, with nine nominations. And FX’s The Bear as well as Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building received five nominations each.
As for media companies, Netflix, which produces both series and movies such as Maestro, The Crown and The Diplomat, topped the list. It received the most nominations of any media company, with 28. However, Warner Bros. Discovery closely followed with 27 nods, including Barbie and Succession.
Meanwhile, Ava DuVernay’s Origin and Michael Mann’s Ferrari joined the list of shock snubs. And The Color Purple did not receive a nomination for best musical or comedy nomination. Another surprise came in a lack of recognition for the reboot of Frasier.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association chose the team of Cedric The Entertainer and Wilmer Valderrama to unveil the nominations. And the 2024 Golden Globe award ceremony will take place on January 7, 2024. CBS will broadcast the ceremony live. However, the Golden Globes award ceremony will also stream on Paramount+ and the CBS app.
