Ellen Pompeo who’s been the face of the medical drama for almost two decades has made it clear once again she’s ready to let go of her character, Meredith Grey. Speaking to Insider, the celebrity revealed she’s unsuccessfully been trying to focus on convincing everybody that the series should end sooner than later.
“I feel like I’m the super naive one who keeps saying, ‘But what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell? And everyone’s like, ‘Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars,'” she shared.
Pompeo has remained in the show which has been airing for 17 years already, and she’s seen many original cast members leave the medical drama which is now in its 18th season. Her character had outstood major challenges including COVID and the death of her husband, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ And “Station 19” Spoilers – Latest Season Ratings Drop Low
Pompeo’s decision of ending the show sooner might be backed up with the latest data which revealed that the fan-favorite series drama is also losing tons of its viewers all over the world.
As published by TV Fanatic, the seventh instalment of Grey’s season 18 dropped to a 0.5 rating in the demo which only attracted just 3.5 million viewers compared to its usual high number.
Even its semi-spinoff series “Station 19” created by Shonda Rhimes, just reached the same rating as Greys, drawing only 3.9 million total viewers with its latest episode. This proves that the viewers might already be experiencing fatigue in the show same with what Pompeo is feeling herself.
With its latest season ratings dropping low and Pompeo convincing ABC it’s time to end the medical drama, Grey’s season 19 might not be realized.
