Grey’s Dr. Jo Wilson has first joined the medical drama series in its ninth season with dark hair. With the show’s comeback for its 18th season, the actress unveiled a different look, flaunting her blonde hair instead of dyeing it darker. It’s because she’s always changed her hair during hiatus and decided to keep the bleach as she felt her character needs a change.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she admitted that her blonde hair made her recent storyline authentic as Dr. Jo’s been through a lot of pain by undergoing a divorce with Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and now by having a baby.
Fortunately, Grey’s show producer, Krista Vernoff, bought her idea and even suggested she go platinum and wrote that in her story.
“There’s a lot of times in my life when I’m going through different seasons where it’s reflected in the way I look. I might dress different, or I might change my hair,” she shared.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Camilla Luddington Confesses The Plot Twist Was Surprising
Although it’s her 10th season in the show and the actress has seen a lot of character developments for Dr. Jo, she admitted she didn’t see this motherhood storyline coming.
“This is my 10th season on the show, so I’ve wanted a lot of things for Jo, like finding out about her past, and one of the things I always wanted was for her to have her own family. I felt like it was really important to her,” she explained.
The star narrated her comical reaction when it was revealed that her character is going to be a mother and the first thing she asked was: “With who?!” It’s because Dr. Jo is not dating anyone at the moment so she’s puzzled how the plot is going to happen.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Dr. Jo Wilson’s Motherhood Started In Season 17
For fans who weren’t able to follow, Dr. Wilson attempted to adopt Luna, her late patient’s baby, but she was rejected by the court in season 17. However, she fought for Luna’s custody and was granted success when the season concluded. For the current season, Dr. Jo explores her motherhood and juggles her responsibilities as an OB.
“This part of her journey with [her new child] Luna, I love it so much for her. It’s crazy and she’s tired, but I think she’s finding so much joy every day in being a mom,” she teased.
The actress also shared how the scene where Dr. Jo fell asleep on a bench outside the hospital can relate to her personal life like a parallel universe. It’s because Luna ages the same as her 1-year-old child and that both of them are “teething”.
“What you’re seeing is just my life basically. They don’t need to make me look tired — I come in looking like I’ve never slept,” she added. Keep checking Celebrating The Soaps for more Grey’s Anatomy spoilers and updates.
