Grey’s Anatomy Star Eric Dane Reveals Using ‘Green Screen Magic’ In Fan-Favorite Reunion Cameo

Grey’s Anatomy: Eric Dane Grey’s Anatomy episode on Thursday, April 1, was a shocker for bringing back two beloved past characters, Lexie Grey and Mark Sloan.

Both Chyler Leigh and Eric Dane returned as Lexie Grey and Mark Sloan in an emotional reunion with Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey in her (Meredith) hallucinatory beach.

In the scene, Meredith told Lexie and Mark that she missed them both so much. Lexie replied it was a kind of a waste of time because they never left her. Mark and Lexie offered Meredith guidance as doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

The episode ended with the doctors taking Meredith off the ventilator being able to breathe on her own.

The characters’ return was amazing, but what’s more interesting is that the production team actually made magic in screens to make the reunion happen. Eric confirmed the production worked out some magic.

Grey’s Anatomy News – Not-So-Physically Reunited

Lexie and Mark tragically died in a plane crash in the series 8th season. Yet, Chyler’s return was made logistically impossible as she was filming Supergirl in Vancouver. Although she could have physically reunited with her co-stars, it would be hard for her to return to Canada due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“Chyler could get here, but then she couldn’t get back to Canada. There was some greenscreen. There was a lot of me and Ellen,” Eric said.

The actor together with Grey’s lead Ellen did film the episode in Malibu, California.
Luckily, Chyler’s team was able to film remotely and used a bit of Hollywood magic.

Grey’s Anatomy  News – A Nostalgia-Filled Theme

The current Season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy seems to stimulate a nostalgic feeling in Grey’s fans. Ever since Meredith contracted COVID-19 and was put on a ventilator in the show, more characters have visited the title’s character. The late Mexie and Mark have been added to the list of cameos including Meredith’s late BFF George T.R. Knight), Meredith’s late husband Derek (Patrick Dempsey), and an ill-fated DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti).

With this recurring theme, Grey’s fans are now speculating all these original cast returns are hints the series is about to end this year. Both showrunner Ellen Pompeo and Krista Vernoff have suggested it could be.

In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Ellen said: “We honestly have not decided. We are really trying to figure it out right now… To end this show this iconic, how do we do it?”
