Grey’s Anatomy Alum Patrick Dempsey Faces Allegations Of Being Unprofessional On The Set

Patrick DempseyGrey’s Anatomy spoilers and updates reveal the beloved star in the ABC medical drama Patrick Dempsey has been accused of showing poor behavior for “terrorizing the set” during the series’ season 11, which reportedly led to his unexpected exit in the show in 2015.

The actor is famously known for playing the fan-favorite Dr. Derek Shepherd, or widely known as “McDreamy” as the on-screen husband to the show’s leading-lady Meredith Grey in the long-running medical series penned by the distinguished writer Shonda Rhimes.

Grey’s viewers were gutted to see their favorite character getting killed off in episode 21 of the show’s season 11 due to an accident after performing a heroic act of helping the injured in a car crash but ended up being broadsided by a truck.

However, six years after Patrick’s character was written off in the popular show on America’s television, the actor is now facing allegations for showing “diva-like fits” while in the set as documented by the author Lynette Rice as she disclosed the details of Dempsey’s departure in her upcoming book “How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey’s Anatomy.”

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Alum Patrick Dempsey Revealed To Have Terrorized The Set

In an excerpt exclusively published by The Hollywood Reporter, former “Grey’s” executive producer James D. Parriott revealed that Dempsey “was sort of terrorizing the set.”

The exec’s statement reads: “There were HR issues. It wasn’t sexual in any way. He sort of was terrorizing the set. Some cast members had all sorts of PTSD with him.”

“He had this hold on the set where he knew he could stop production and scare people,” Parriott revealed.

The upcoming book, which will be made available on September 21, contains interviews with over 80 cast and crew members both past and present from the series.

Former executive producer Jeannine Renshaw also recalled moments where Ellen Pompeo, who plays his on-screen wife Meredith, was frustrated with him. Renshaw disclosed Ellen doesn’t like the actor complaining about being late or for staying too long on the set, while the actress had twice as many scenes to shoot compared to him.

A longtime crew member also confirmed Patrick’s unlikely relationship with others and described him as the “lone ranger.” Although he cleared he’s not defending Patrick’s “schtick” he shared he was “miserable” and “had no one to talk to.”

The said crew even revealed their conversation when another favorite actress Sandra Oh left the show and Patrick told him he should’ve left then but was stopped because of the large amount of money he’s getting from the famous drama, which he confirmed in his interview for the book.

The alleged actor admitted to being burned out and pointed out that his demanding schedule for eleven long years has challenged him to be consistent with his time with family.

“You never know your schedule, so your kid asks you, “What are you doing on Monday?” And you go, “I don’t know,” because I don’t know my schedule,” he explained.

The actor explained that despite the challenges, he had to be grateful for being compensated well, and pointed out he can’t complain because he doesn’t have a right.

“You don’t have control over your schedule. So, you have to just be flexible” he explained.

The excerpt revealed that Rhime’s witnessing the poor behavior herself was “the final straw” which lead the writers to decide to take him out of the show and having to craft three possible storylines but ended with killing him off, however, still as a hero.

“It was ultimately decided that just bringing him back was going to be too hard on the other actors. The studio just said it was going to be more trouble than it was worth and decided to move on,” Parriott added.
