Harry Potter news and updates tease that HBO Max officially ordered a TV series based on the beloved novel. It was also revealed that plans for the new show span 10 years.
“Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic, and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally,” as per the announcement of HBO Max.
HBO boss Casey Bloys expressed his excitement about introducing Harry Potter fans to Hogwarts in a whole new way. He stated that Harry Potter had become a cultural phenomenon and that there was an unwavering passion for the Wizarding World. Thus, HBO is collaborating with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling to create a Max Original series that explores each of the beloved books in great detail.
Rowling is one of the show’s executive producers while David Heyman is still in talks to become one of the execs as well. For those who didn’t know, the latter helped produce all eight Harry Potter movies.
HBO Max And Discovery+ Merger
The streamer announced the new project during a press event held by Warner Bros. Discovery about the merger of HBO Max and Discovery+ in a single streaming service called Max. It is set to officially launch on May 23 and Max will be the one-stop destination for titles under Warner.
“From the biggest superheroes to real-life champions; from culture-shaping dramas to taste-shaping entertainment; from fantastical realms to the realest of worlds, Max will offer an unrivaled range of choice,” as per JB Perrette, President & CEO, Global Streaming & Games, Warner Bros. Discovery.
“This new brand signals an important change from two narrower products, HBO Max and Discovery+, to our broader content offering and consumer proposition. While each product offered something for some people, Max will have a broad array of quality choices for everybody,” she continued.
The current subscribers of HBO Max will be granted access to Max at the same price as their former subscription. They can also use the features of their current plan for six months after the launch. Aside from that, their profiles and settings will be migrated to the new streaming service. Meanwhile, Discovery+ subscribers who are not interested in Max can continue to enjoy Discovery+ as a stand-alone service.
