He said that he never thought that the show would go on for a long time, and the end of it is always present in his mind. He added that even in the second season, he’s been thinking about ending the series, whether the final season would be the next one or the season after that. And now here we are.
As he looked back, he remembered meeting with his writers before the fourth season, and he said to them that this season might be the final one. He asked what they thought of it, and they thought of different scenarios.
He also said that they could do shorter seasons to extend the show, or they could just try to extend it as much as possible. But what’s wrong with the sort of freewheeling a show is that there could be bad weeks or good weeks. And they decided it was better to go out strong rather than end the series just because its strengths had faded. He preferred the latter.
Armstrong also said that he didn’t want to disclose that the fourth season would be the last until it started airing. He said that he didn’t want to hide anything and that he feels responsible for the viewers as well. He personally feels for the viewers. He said that when it comes to him, he wants to know if the show is about to end and not be left hanging with whether or not to expect another season.
