Helen Mirren And Harrison Ford Talks About The ‘Rare Love Story’ Explored In ‘1923’

We are always given the idea of a happily ever after onscreen, but we’re rarely shown what it looks like. Well, thankfully for fans of ‘Yellowstone,’ this is exactly what they didn’t get to miss out in the prequel show ‘1923,’ led by Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.

Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford Explains Their Onscreen Relationship In Latest Interview

Helen Mirren’s Cara Dutton and Harrison Ford’s Jacob Dutton are showing us what it looks like to have a relationship endure well into the sunset years.

What’s the secret to this beautiful romance that we’re seeing and falling in love with on the telly?
“These two are partners as much as lovers,” Ford told PEOPLE, with Mirren agreeing “exactly.”

He continued, “And [they’re] depending on each other for things that they are not part of their quiver of arrows. And it’s an extraordinary relationship that Taylor [Sheridan] has written for us to inhabit.”

Helen Mirren Describes Cara and Jacob Dutton’s Romance As “Ever After”

Elaborating on Cara and Jacob’s relationship and how they’ve successfully weathered their bad days because of it, Mirren explained that that kind of onscreen dynamic is “rare to see.”

“In movies, people get married or they meet-cute and they fall in love and they have hot sex or whatever, and then it’s all over, happily ever after,” she said.

Well, she went on to tell is that Cara and Jacob’s love story is the “ever after” we’ve been hearing about since our childhood days. “Now we’re seeing what happens at the end of that story, and you very rarely see that onscreen, but it’s actually something that people love to see.”

She continued, “They do love to see what does happen in the ever after, if this is a couple who absolutely should be together, are together, fit perfectly well together, and that does happen. That does happen in life.”

To bring this amount of affection to live onscreen, Mirren and Ford does share a special something offscreen. “We would sit around together and shoot the s— off-set,” Mirren said.

“She’s what we call a broad,” Ford chirped in, explaining, “She’s a woman that has the bandwidth to hang with men — not just to be a lady with them, but to actually hang with them.”
