A ‘Harry Potter’ series that will be faithful to the books is being adapted by HBO. It is said to be a return to Hogwarts that a whole new generation of movie lovers can enjoy – you know, like a new Harry Potter for the new age.
So how “faithful” will this promised “faithful” adaptation be if they’re hooked up on racial diversity?
Harry Potter – Cilian Murphy Is Reportedly Being Considered For The Role Of Voldemort
There’s a lot of excitement already brewing for HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ adaptation, especially with the news that negotiations are ongoing to have the same VFX studios that created the wizarding world in the original movies return.
The series will start filming in mid-2025 at Warner Bros’ Leavesden Studios in the UK, where the eight-part movie was filmed.
We’re still in the casting call stage, and so far, we’ve heard that thirty-two thousand British children between the ages of 9 and 11 have auditioned for one of the three lead roles.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Paapa Essiedu has been offered the role of Severus Snape, though the fandom did grumble on the casting choice, since Snape was described in the books as a sallow-skinned man with black hair.
In addition to this, Variety reported that Mark Rylance will be taking the role of Hogwarts’ beloved headmaster, Albus Dumbledore.
The latest casting news to come from that sector is the announcement that it’s possible for fans to see ‘Inception’s’ Cilian Murphy step into the role of ‘Harry Potter’s’ main villain, Lord Voldemort.
HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ – Promises To Provide More Detail And Preserve Integrity Of Original Books
‘Succession’s’ Francesca Gardiner, who is also known for her work in adapting Philip Pullman’s ‘His Dark Materials’ for the big screen, has been attached as showrunner.
There’s every reason to believe that the adaptation could turn out to be darker than the original franchise. Why? Gardiner is not a fan of sanitizing horror to please children. And guess who they have as director? Mark Mylod. Think ‘Game of Thrones’ and the horror-infused fine-dining satire ‘The Menu.’
Despite this, ‘Harry Potter’ author JK Rowling trusts in the promise of a “faithful” and more accurate adaptation, saying that it “will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series.”
According to HBO, it will take a decade for them to cover the seven books, so buckle up.
