Chris Meloni Has Teased A Romance Between The Two For Years

Law & Order franchise star Chris Meloni, known for his role as Elliot Stabler, has hinted at a potential romance between his character and Olivia Benson. He’s hinted about it  in both SVU and the more recent Law & Order: Organized Crime.

Since the early days of Law & Order: SVU, fans have been eagerly hoping for this relationship to blossom, especially given their history as partners on the show.

They’ve Always Had A Connection

Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler were key characters in the early seasons of Law & Order: SVU, serving as partners throughout the series. Their relationship was strictly platonic, yet there was a strong bond between them.

At the same time, Elliot was married to Kathy Stabler (Isabel Gillies), who has since passed away, which prevented them from exploring a deeper connection.

Nevertheless, fans believe that if given the chance, Stabler would choose Benson; since the show’s inception, viewers have been captivated by their dynamic.

Although the romance fans hoped for in the earlier seasons didn’t materialize, it remains a possibility for the future.

Chris Meloni Wants It To Happen

While promoting Law & Order: Organized Crime, Chris Meloni expressed his willingness to explore a relationship between Benson and Stabler. He stated, “I’m always open to opening that can of worms. It’s powers that are above me.”

He also discussed his character’s journey in the upcoming season, “He carries unresolved issues from his time as an SVU detective,  in an emotional state that’s quite jagged, though not necessarily fragile.”

The new season debuted on Thursday, April 17, on CBS, with Episode Two available on Peacock the following day, April 18.

In the teaser, fans witnessed Benson at Stabler’s side in the hospital, and in the episode itself she wouldn’t leave his side; could this signal the beginning of a new chapter?

Chris Will Always Be Open To Benson And Stabler “Coupling” But It’s Not Up To Him

Chris Meloni appears to be supportive of a potential romance between Stabler and Benson, which has delighted fans-however, the decision ultimately lies with the producers and writers.
