With 21 seasons under their belt and over 450 shows to date, NCIS continues to be one of the longest-running shows in TV history. As such, there’s bound to be a feud (or two) on set over the years.
Such is the case for NCIS actors Mark Harmon (Leroy Jethro Gibbs) and Michael Weatherly (Anthony DiNozzo), who appeared to have had beef during their run with the military police series, and this could be ongoing.
As per a recent Closer Weekly article, a source states that Harmon doesn’t have much patience where Weatherly is concerned, noting Mark still views Michael as a “toxic pain” in “the butt”, even after years of working apart.
“NCIS” – Details Surrounding Michael Weatherly/Mark Harmon Feud
The feud between these NCIS co-stars dates way back. During a 2007 interview with Fulton Critic, Michael addressed his own shortcomings on the NCIS set.
Still, when it came to his difference of opinion with Mark, he notes that they were on “different poles”, stating Harmon was the North Pole and he was Antarctica. He adds that Mark was “confused by” his presence from the “get-go”.
A specific occasion where Michael realized just how different he was from Mark was during upfronts when CNN Showbiz Today interviewed the cast.
Weatherly was asked the best part of doing the NCIS pilot, and responded that he got a “rubber gun” and “fake badge”, where Harmon looked at him and said, ‘That’s your answer?’
They just seemed to be two very different people, and likely still are at opposite ends of the page.
“NCIS” – Michael Weatherly’s Past Inappropriateness Has Been An Issue
Weatherly left NCIS in 2016 to star in another CBS drama, Bull. After a successful first season, the network renewed the show and signed actress Eliza Dushku to a three-episode deal.
The plan was to eventually promote her to a full-time co-star; however, after she claimed Weatherly made inappropriate comments to her, the producers ended her agreement, promptly.
An investigation was launched, and Dushku was given a settlement of $9.5 million due to her unjust termination from the show.
Weatherly did issue a statement, apologizing to Eliza, via the New York Times. He acknowledged that he made jokes during tapings of Bull, mocking lines from the script.
He also noted that Eliza told him she felt uncomfortable with his language and attempted humor, and he added he was “mortified” at offending her and apologized immediately.
Weatherly adds that upon reflection, he better understands that what he said was neither appropriate nor funny, and he is “sorry” for the pain he caused the actress.
