Currently in its 41st season, Jeopardy!, hosted by Ken Jennings, had planned tapings at Sony Pictures Television’s studio in Culver City between January 15 and January 17. However, due to safety concerns, these sessions have been canceled.

Rescheduling Filming Amidst Los Angeles Fire

According to reports, filming is tentatively rescheduled for January 27, though no official confirmation has been provided.

A memo sent to audience members attending Jeopardy!’s highly anticipated Invitational Tournament emphasized the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution and safety for all.” The producers expressed hope to welcome attendees back in the future while apologizing for the inconvenience.

The neighboring sound stages for Wheel of Fortune, hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White, also suspended production. Other game shows, such as The Price Is Right and After Midnight, similarly ceased filming.

Ripple Effects Across Hollywood

The impact of the wildfires extends far beyond game shows, disrupting multiple high-profile productions. NBC Universal’s Hacks, Loot, and Suits: L.A. remain on pause, along with Amazon’s second season of Fallout.

Disney-20th also halted work on Doctor Odyssey and Grey’s Anatomy. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. temporarily shut down operations for Abbott Elementary, All-American, and The Pitt.

Some productions, including NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and The Neighborhood, have resumed filming interior scenes where air quality is less of a concern. However, outdoor shoots remain impossible due to hazardous smoke and ash from the fires.

Community Support and Event Cancellations

In addition to halting TV shows, the wildfires have led to the postponement or cancellation of major events in Los Angeles.

These include the AFI Awards luncheon, the BAFTA Tea, and The Critics Choice Awards, now rescheduled to January 26.

Jimmy Kimmel Live, which briefly suspended taping, has resumed production. The show’s team is spearheading relief efforts, collecting essentials such as water, baby supplies, and pet food for affected communities.

FilmLA, the agency responsible for issuing permits for Los Angeles-based productions, has withdrawn filming permissions in heavily affected areas like Altadena and Malibu.

Their January 8 statement highlighted that resources typically allocated to support productions are now redirected to firefighting and evacuation efforts.

A Devastating Toll

The fires, which began on January 7, have caused widespread devastation, with at least 24 fatalities and over 12,000 structures destroyed.

More than 40,000 acres have burned, displacing numerous residents. While the Hurst fire is nearly contained, the Pacific Palisades and Eaton fires continue to rage. Adding to the crisis, new fires dubbed Auto and Scout ignited on January 13 and 14, respectively.

As the wildfires persist, the entertainment industry faces an uncertain timeline for resuming regular operations. For now, the focus remains on ensuring safety and supporting those impacted by this natural disaster.
