Julie Andrews – Says She’s Never Met The “Bridgerton” Cast In Person
Iconic actress Julie Andrews talked about being the voice of Lady Whistledown on the steamy Netflix movie “Bridgerton”. The movie is based on a romance book of the same name and takes place during the Regency-era with Dukes, Lords and Ladies being the order of the day.
Can you imagine that the voice of Lady Whistledown – the character in the franchise that gives us all those juicy secrets – Julie Andrews, 86, has not actually met the cast of “Bridgerton” live? Like us, she gets to see them on a screen.
“You know I’ve never met the company in person,” Andrews told the show’s co-host Hoda Kotb. “Of course, I see them on the show sometimes. But I do all my recording far far away from them.”
“Bridgerton” premiered on Netflix in 2020 to a massive audience, becoming the streaming platform’s most watched original show to date. It follows the lives of esteemed families of the British high society and their romantic pursuits through the eyes of a “caustic” columnist, Lady Whistledown.
“I think it’s gorgeous looking, and they’re all wonderful in it and they’re lovely people to work with,” Andrews said on Today, when asked about her opinions of the series. “Shonda Rhimes and the whole gang down, they’re terrific. And I’m thrilled that they asked me.”
How Julie Andrews Prepares To Voice Lady Whistledown
During the episode, Kotb revealed that co-host Savannah Guthrie was a huge fan of the show, but did not realize that the voice of Lady Whistledown belonged to Andrews initially. She was, however, “mind-blown” when she figured it out.

Andrews, who is known for her starring roles in “Mary Poppins” and “The Sound of Music”, then explained how she approaches the role, saying that she uses one memorable line to warm up her voice for the recording sessions.
“I don’t record everything at one time so to get back into character again, my first warmup is ‘My name is Lady Whistledown,’ ” she said. “That’ll get me back into character.”
“Bridgerton” has been renewed for a third and fourth season. You can stream the previous seasons anytime on Netflix.
