Kevin Costner Wants “Yellowstone” To Continue Despite Controversial Exit

When Kevin Costner chose to exit “Yellowstone,” the show’s creator Taylor Sheridan revealed that his character John Dutton’s story was no way near over, and while the character’s ending still remains the same, his journey to it, however, would be abridged in the upcoming fifth season.

Months after his exit, Costner did a complete u-turn by speaking about his interest in returning for the show.

“I’d like to be able to do it but we haven’t been able to,” he told Entertainment Tonight on April 9 after he was asked if he was interested in returning to the show. He added: “I hope it [works out].”

Last year, Paramount announced that the show was going to wrap with its fifth season. The news was something Costner said was unexpected because he thought they were making “seven seasons.”

According to Costner, the multiple spinoffs planned – including a Matthew McConaughey-led one – complicated things and led to the untimely end of the show.

“Maybe it will,” he said of “Yellowstone” extending beyond the fifth season.“Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.”

Kevin Costner Would Like His “Yellowstone” Character To Be “Proactive”

When Costner exited the show, he explained he did so as a result of creative issues and salary disputes. It was also rumored he wanted to concentrate on his two-part Western epic, “Horizon.”

However, it seems creative issues might have been the bigger inducement to exit because the star reiterated it during his chat with ET.

“He needs to be proactive in what happens,” Costner said, noting that he has very little say on how things proceed. “I’ve kind of had my own fantasy [about] how it might be, but that’s Taylor’s thing. I said as much to him a while back.”

He added, “I had thoughts [about] how it could happen, but we just have to see.”
