Guess what? We’re not the only ones rooting for Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson’s relationship to work. The stars playing them are a big fan of their love story too.
Christopher Meloni Wants Benson and Stabler To Keep Working On Their Relationship
Mariska Hargitay‘s Olivia Benson has risen through the ranks through her intelligence, dedication to duty, and of course, her staunch resolve (believe me, you do not want to be locked in a room with that woman.)
There’s another side of hers that fans are looking forward to seeing more of; how the character reacts to falling in love.
In a recent chat with NBC Insider, Meloni talked about one of the things he’s looking forward to seeing in the next season of “Law and Order: Organized Crime.“
“What I hope is that we find the space to move forward. I don’t know if we have, but I look forward to keep trying it. To keep challenging it. To keep trying to figure it out,” he said.
In season 3 of “Law and Order: Organized Crime,” fans witnessed Benson and Stabler’s relationship growing intense.
When Benson was shot in Episode 22 of Season 3, titled “With Many Names,” Stabler bravely carried her to safety despite being blinded by tear gas himself. Stabler then rushed to be by her side at the hospital as soon as he could and was visibly shaken to hear that she would survive her injuries.
As she recuperated, Benson received a diamond-accented compass pendant from Stabler in what was a moving moment, considering how close Benson has held Stabler in her heart for years.
“Elliot, this is beautiful,” she said. Joyfully, she asked, “is this supposed to lead me somewhere… or to something?” “Lead you to happiness, Liv,” Stabler responded. As for their onscreen chemistry, Hargitay is also a strong supporter of it.
In a chat with PEOPLE, she said: “I was like, ‘If they match me with him, this is my role.’ And he said the same thing. He goes, ‘I want her.’ And then he and I got it.” She cited Meloni’s “energy, confidence, power,” and “the way he looked” as reasons their character’s onscreen chemistry would work.
On Thursday, Jan. 18, the fourth season of “Law and Order: Organized Crime” premiered at NBC.
