Law & Order Spoilers: Elliot Stabler And Olivia Benson Romance Ever Happening?

Law & Order: Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) Law & Order SVU/Organized Crime spoilers tease that even though Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) finally said “I love you” to a blindsided Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) it wasn’t likely what fans thought or what Olivia at first thought he meant. Benson and Stabler were close throughout their partnership at the Special Victims Unit, and there was some underlying chemistry, but he was married. Stabler’s wife, Kathy Stabler (Isabel Gillies) has just died and been buried, so Law & Order SVU fans and Olivia and his children would agree it’s way too soon for him to move on!

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit/Organized Crime Spoilers – Captain Olivia Benson Helped Her Former Partner’s Family Stage An Intervention

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit viewers will recall that Olivia has been very worried about Elliot lately. Even after a decade apart, she can tell that there’s something off. Olivia has tried to get Elliot to talk about what is bothering him, which seems to be over and above grieving Kathy. He appears to be almost in a form of denial but also in a revenge mode and in danger of going rogue, as longtime Law & Order: Special Victims unit viewers will recall he has had a bad habit of doing.

She is also suspecting he is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder because of Kathy’s sudden death, and she had touched on it with him but he wouldn’t open up to her. Olivia had been expecting to possibly have a very emotional time and likely expected Elliot to feel ganged up on by his children and herself, but she definitely didn’t expect to hear him blurt out that he loved her! This intervention had come about when one of Elliot’s daughters, Kathleen Stabler (Alison Siko) reached out to Liv to get her help with her father. His behavior has been getting more and more erratic as the weeks have gone on since Kathy’s death. Kathleen wanted to try an intervention to try and get through to their father, and Olivia had agreed to help.

Law & Order Special Victims Unit/Organized Crime Spoilers – The Family Gathers

Olivia has always been a part of Elliot’s family as much as his children. He returned home one night to find Olivia, Kathleen, Dickie Stabler, (Jeffrey Scaperotta) Maureen Stabler, (Autumn Mirrasou) Elizabeth Stabler, (Kaitlyn Davidson), and Eli Stabler (Nicky Torchia). Elliot was suspicious, of course, and looked around warily as he wondered what was going on. He knew it wasn’t his birthday or anyone else’s and besides, everyone looked way too serious! Earlier in the episode, his bizarre, borderline manic behavior had contributed to him and Eli being in an automobile accident. The children all spoke as well as Olivia, telling him that they were worried about him and his increasingly bizarre behavior. Olivia confirmed she was there because his family was worried about him.

Elliot had replied he didn’t ask her to be there, rather brusquely. Olivia remained to understand his mood and reiterated that they were all worried because they all cared. Elliot became defensive, telling them if there was anything wrong with him his superior Sergeant Ayanna Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt) would have noticed, and that perhaps they should talk to her. He became more and more uncomfortable and defensive until Olivia chimed in asking him to tell them what he needed. Out of his mouth almost as a Freudian slip came the words “I love you”! She was taken aback and he was flustered!

He stuttered a little bit and his eyes even teared up – he clarified he loved all of them and he wasn’t sure he could do this! His apparent breakthrough disappeared almost immediately though when he described the “intervention” as a huge weight dragging him down and ran to Angela Wheatley’s (Tamara Taylor) place and commiserated with her. At least he got his feelings out about the trauma of losing a loved one and getting through the associated grief! Later he did some working out and called Olivia. He left a message that a photo had been found on social media of the bombed site in which Kathy was killed and knew for sure he wasn’t the target – she was!

That certainly didn’t help poor Elliot any! It became obvious that the love Elliot had professed for Olivia was the love someone has for a friend who is like family and is always there for him. That isn’t saying after Elliot is through his grief that the two close friends might not become a real couple then! But for now, it would be way too soon and not just for propriety’s sake but for Elliot’s emotional well-being!
