Law & Order spoilers tease that fans of the two popular NBC crime procedurals, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime want to know if they have been renewed for another season. We have the answers!
Law & Order Spoilers – SVU Just Completed Its Twenty-Second Season And Organized Crime It’s First
As it stands, SVU has now, including renewal years, exceeded the on-air time of the longest television show ever on the air, namely “Gunsmoke”. We have good news in that it has been renewed for its twenty-second season, and it has been renewed through its twenty-fourth season. The end of the twenty-fourth season will be in spring 2023, four more years than “Gunsmoke”. So, fans don’t have to worry about SVU being canceled for right now.
SVU star Mariska Hargitay, as Olivia Benson has also set records previously held by two leads of “Gunsmoke” – James Arness as Sheriff Matt Dillon and Amanda Blake as Miss Kitty – as well as beating Kelsey Grammer’s character Frasier Crane, who spun off the long-running “Cheers” into his own spinoff, “Frasier”. But what about SVU’s companion show, Law & Order: Organized Crime, where Christopher Meloni, Olivia’s former partner Eliot Stabler got his own spinoff? The good news is, that it too was renewed and the two shows will still run back to back in their same time spots Thursday evenings come to the new season premieres.
NBC has not yet announced exactly when the premieres of the new season will be, but going by pre-covid pandemic history, the fall season will start somewhere near the end of September possibly September 23, 2021. As previously mentioned, SVU will come first, at 9:00 PM ET, followed by Organized Crime at 10:00 PM. However, there is more good news for Law & Order fans – the new season will bring a Law & Order trilogy Thursday, similar to the trio of “Chicago” shows on Wednesdays.
Law & Order Spoilers – The New Kid On The Law & Order Block
Law & Order spoilers also tease that the Law & Order Thursday trilogy will add Law & Order: For The Defense, which will precede SVU and Organized Crime, airing at 8:00 PM Thursdays. Unfortunately, the show went straight to order, which was announced earlier in May 2021 but as there is no pilot, no cast has been released. We could make some educated guesses, however.
One of the more popular former district attorneys in the SVU universe was Raul Barba, played by Raul Esparza. His spot was taken over by former SVU detective Dominick Carisi (Peter Scanavino). This series spinoff will be based on defense attorneys as opposed to prosecutors, but some former prosecutors may still be working the other side of the law & order fence as the defense rather than the prosecution.
SVU fans can be sure that Carisi will likely cross back and forth over to the new series as Stabler and Benson cross over between SVU and Organized Crime. Another former district attorney on SVU, Peter Stone (Philip Winchester) could also be working defense; after all, there are not but so many positions for district attorneys in the district attorney’s office! Over the years, many defense attorney characters have appeared in multiple shows of the Law & Order franchise.
