Law & Order SVU Spoilers – There Have Been A Series Of Main And Supporting Cast Ins And Outs
Law & Order: SVU, or Special Victims Unit has had a series of both main and supporting cast ins and outs over the years. The show premiered in 1999, the first spinoff in the successful Law & Order procedural crime drama series. The original cast included Dann Florek as Captain Donald Cragen, Richard Belzer as Detective John Munch – a transplant from a different Dick Wolf series, “Homicide-Life On The Streets”, Ice-T as Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutola, and of course Mariska Hargitay as Detective Olivia Benson and Christopher Meloni as her partner Detective Elliott Stabler.
There were many others in the rather large ensemble cast as well. As longtime SVU viewers know, Olivia started out as lead detective along with Stabler and she rose to the top position of Captain after Cragen retired. The Special Victims Unit focuses on crimes primarily of a sexual nature, although they have intervened in many domestic abuse situations as well, and even some human smuggling cases. Eventually, after many years, Meloni left the show to pursue other endeavors, and therefore his alter ego Elliot Stabler left as well. He will be returning soon in a spinoff called Law & Order: Organized Crime, where he will head up a team investigating mob related crimes. Over the years, the show has garnered a total of ninety-one awards.
