For 25 years now, Law & Order: Special Victims Unite fans have watched Mariska Hargitay play Detective Olivia Benson. The actress is an original cast member of the show, appearing in its pilot back in 1999, and Benson also happens to be one of the longest-running characters in one of the longest-running primetime dramas in America. Hargitay has even directed some SVU shows along the way.
At the age of 60, Mariska is far from retirement; however, it would be understandable if she wanted to potentially retire from the role or show. Hargitay recently had an interview where she hinted that this could be a possibility.

The actress recently had a chat with E! News. When the subject of retirement was brought up, Hargitay stated she had thought about it, but she felt that it wasn’t time to leave the role just yet. While she stated she’s open to the idea, it’s for ‘way later’.
She goes on to say she is someone who ‘follows the signs.’ Hargitay states that she trusts the future will be right and that she is where she’s supposed to be. She adds that she’s ‘engaged and fulfilled’ at SVU currently, and there are things she wants to do and challenge herself with.
