Michael C. Hall Talks New Dexter Series

Dexter Dexter spoilers and updates tease that the revival of Dexter will bring a “starkly different” tone, look and story from the original TV series, according to Michael C. Hall, who plays the main role, Dexter Morgan.

Dexter ran for eight years in Showtime. It followed the story of Dexter Morgan who worked at crime scenes but has a double life as a serial killer. But the revival of the TV series is not a continuation of the original show. Clyde Phillips, who helms the new series, said that it’s more of a standalone show.

Phillips said that they get to start from scratch because they don’t want it to be Dexter Season 9. “Ten years, or however many years, have passed by the time this will air, and the show will reflect that time passage,” Phillips said.

“In so far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It’s a great opportunity to write a second finale for our show, and Showtime was very gracious about that,” he explained.

Dexter ended its eight-season run in 2013 where the main character can be seen leaving Miami for a new life as a lumberjack. A lot of people, including Hall, were disappointed. The Dexter revival aims to correct the mistake committed by the original show.

Michael C. Hall Talks About Reprising His Role

It’s been revealed that Hall received a lot of offers to reprise his role and he agreed to do the revival series in 2019. The actor said during an interview with The Daily Beast that it was a great opportunity that he can’t pass up. However, he admitted that playing his alter ego once again still felt odd for him, at first.

“There was a sense of, ‘Oh, they just turn the cameras back on and he’s being living a life the entire time,’” Hall explained.

Fortunately, there’s a stark difference between the original and the revival in terms of the context, tone, and look of the show. He described it as a “pretty wild experience” since he had to leave his character for several years and now he’s resurrecting it again. They focused on the work on hand and what they need to do especially because the production was demanding and intense.
