Just two shows into NCIS’ new season and storylines are heating up! During the series’ premiere, fans saw Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) interested in the Deputy Direction role. Even though he had worked as an interim director and experience as an NCIS agent, the role was given to someone else: Gabriel LaRoche (Seamus Dever), Department of Justice Inspector General.
Meanwhile, fans saw Lena Paulson (Marem Hassler) return in Episode 2, an agent for Germany’s federal intelligence service, Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND).
Lena debuted in Season 20 when fans discovered that she and Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) were hooking up at international out-of-town conferences. At the end of Episode 2, their romance is made official when Lena gives Leon the key to her apartment.
Could the show be teasing an exit for him?
“NCIS”, Season 22 Spoilers – Leon Vance Decides To Retire?
Sadly, Leon’s wife Jackie Vance (Paula Newsome) died during an assassination attempt on Eli David’s life (Michael Nouri). Jared Vance (Spence Moore II), Leon’s estranged son, appeared during NCIS’ 1,000th show and questioned why his dad would still work at a job that has taken so much away from him – Leon told him that he considered what he does at NCIS, a light in the darkness.
During NCIS’, Season 22, Episode 2, Leon reveals to Alden Parker (Gary Cole) that since he was shot, (during the 1000th episode), he’s been pondering how he wants to spend the rest of his time with, and with whom.
Could this be a hint that Leon’s ready to retire? He may be struggling with the idea of working in such a dangerous job while trying to maintain a new romance with Lena and attempting to work on his relationship with his estranged son. Plus, with his daughter Kayla Vance (Naomi Grace) working as an agent, he’d still have ties to NCIS if he stepped down.
“NCIS”, Season 22 Spoilers – Leon Vance’s Exit Could Create A Domino Effect
LaRoche is certainly being set up in Season 22 as the new main villain on the show. Not only is it highly likely that he was the mole who leaked NCIS information after Episode 1 of this season, but he quickly got promoted, and he’s certainly someone who can’t be trusted. After all, he has been secretly investigating NCIS, right?
It’s also not hard to think that as Vance is contemplating retirement, LaRoche might not be someone who he decides could be his successor. This could unleash a fair amount of drama if things unfold in this fashion. Only time will tell.
