NCIS Spoilers: LA Boss Explains Season 12’s Happy Finale, Plans For Hetty In Season 13

NCIS spoilers and updates reveal in an interview with TVLine, “NCIS: Los Angeles” boss R. Scott Gemmill dished out on the unusually happy season 12 finale. He also dropped some hints on what’s to come for Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt) in the upcoming season 13.

NCIS: LA – Season 12 Finale: Feel Good Episode

Gemmill revealed that they were supposed to use the season finale they prepared for last season. But after all that everyone has gone through this pandemic, they decided to “do a fun, feel-good episode that leaves everyone happy and hopeful for what is coming down the line.”

Sam Hanna And G. Callen’s Love Letter To The Audience

The show’s boss referred to Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) and G. Callen’s (Chris O’Donnell) recollection of everything that has happened this year as a “love letter” to the audience. He appreciated fans for their loyalty for 12 long years, throughout all the exciting and traumatic things they’ve done in the show.

He said, “We felt like we should have as much fun as we can and share that with the fans.”

The Exit Of Two Long-Running Characters

Although it was a feel-good episode, some fans were saddened when two of the show’s long-running characters exited before the season finale ended. Eric Beale (Barrett Foa) and Nell Jones (Renee Felice Smith) rode off into the sunset in Eric’s new sports car as they head to their new life and work that’s based in Tokyo.

Gemmill explained that there have been seasons when Barrett felt bored and wants to switch to Broadway. But he always told him that, “I totally understand. You want to be doing something else, something cool. You should.” But as a father figure, I’m like, “Keep getting the paycheck because one day the show’ll be over, and then you can do whatever you want.”

The same goes with Smith. Gemmill revealed that there has been a lot of instances when they had to write off her character so she can pursue other projects. “She’s developing her own shows, and just wrote a book that’s out,” he revealed.

Linda Hunt Returns As Hetty Lange

Hunt has received both her vaccines and feels good about coming back to work. When asked if fans will get a good amount of Hetty in the next season, Gemmill said “That’s the plan, yeah.”

“Obviously, Hetty was away, but we want there to be a real reason, and we’ll probably revisit that next season,” he hinted.
