NCIS Spoilers – Monday Night’s Episode Was Mark Harmon’s Last NCIS Episode
NCIS showrunners have confirmed that Monday night’s episode, “Great Wide Open” was Mark’s last episode, although he will still be around the set doing more producing. NCIS viewers may have noticed that Mark was the executive producer on this episode, although he was onscreen as well.
In that episode, viewers will recall that Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) was in Alaska in the middle of fishing and a cloud of gnats, as FBI Special Agent Alden Park (Gary Cole) demanded to know where Gibbs was. NCIS viewers later saw Park at NCIS headquarters, bugging NCIS Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) for intel. Rocky didn’t give him a whole lot although he did give him some!
NCIS Spoilers – Timothy McGee And Leroy Jethro Gibbs Were Trying To Solve A Case
NCIS viewers then saw that it turned out that Gibbs was a few yards away from McGee, and the two were ready to go out on a motorboat, ready to take down a contract killer who had been hired by a local company. Gibbs and McGee were in Alaska at Naktok Bay questioning Tunu Alonak (Wayne Charles Baker), the father of the victim, a freelance writer named Libby.
In the meantime, viewers found out how Gibbs got his boats out of his basement – at least the latest one – as Park stormed Gibbs’ home and found nothing but a large hole in the side of the basement wall! That is the answer to one mystery that NCIS viewers have wanted to solve for years, although Gibbs likely didn’t get his previous boats out that way, speculating that his basement may actually be a garage, and the large hole in the wall once supported a garage door!
Leroy Jethro Gibbs Didn’t Plan On Returning To His House, Obviously
NCIS viewers saw that Gibbs didn’t plan on returning to his house, obviously, with that big old hole in the side! True to form, he did shout at McGee to grab his gear before questioning the fisherman who stood by an old boat in a harbor, with the name “Cecelia” painted on the side. It was plain to see that Gibbs empathized strongly with the old fisherman, who had lost his only daughter to death. Longtime NCIS viewers will remember that Gibbs has lost many beloveds in his life, starting with his first wife Shannon (Darby Stanchfield) and daughter Kelly (Mary Mouser).
During the years that played out onscreen, he also lost a second wife, his father, and several good friends and an agent early on. Special Agent Caitlin Todd (Sasha Alexander) was assassinated right in front of him! Director Jenny Shepard (Lauren Holly) also died during Gibbs’ tenure. Gibbs and the fisherman bond and by the end of the episode, Gibbs admits to McGee that he finally feels peace, and he’s not coming back to NCIS or his former home. McGee returns alone, with Gibbs obviously rather continuing to fish!
NCIS showrunner Steven Binder released a statement regarding Harmon’s exit episode, while also promising he’ll still be a part – just in the background instead of on screen for the most part. Binder said “As an executive producer and dear friend, Mark continues to be an integral part of the fabric of the show. Our north star has always been staying true to our characters, and that truth has always guided the stories we tell and where those characters go. So regarding the future of Gibbs, as long-time fans of the show may have noticed over the years…never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out.”
