NCIS: Hawaii spoilers tease that NCIS: Hawaii will introduce Vanessa Lachey as Jane Tennant on September 20, 2021 immediately following the season premiere of the flagship show, NCIS. This will be a change for NCIS, which had previously always aired on Tuesdays.
NCIS: Hawaii Spoilers – Jane Tennant Introduces Herself In A Preview
CBS recently released a preview, or trailer for NCIS: Hawaii. In it, Jane lands in a field in a helicopter, unboards, and walks with purpose towards a group of first responders. It is obvious that a fire has taken place, with a Honolulu Fire Department truck at the scene and flames seen in the foreground of the shot. Jane identifies herself as Jane Tennant, Special Agent In Charge, NCIS Hawaii.
Although she refers to NCIS: Hawaii, the actual name of the NCIS facility she works out of is NCIS: Pearl – named for Pearl Harbor. She is described as diplomatic, yet hard-charging, and a keen investigator who can navigate both crime scenes and inter-bureau politics equally well. In her personal life, she is a single mother who often feels torn between running NCIS: Pearl and her family.
In the trailer, she says to a team member – Jesse Boon, played by Noah Mills- that she thought she’d be past needing a caffeine fix by now! Jesse, also a parent, tells her as long as they have kids they’ll never be past needing a caffeine fix!
NCIS: Hawaii Spoilers – Jane Tennant’s Team And Spoiler Scenes
Jane’s team on NCIS: Hawaii includes Lucy, an eager junior member (Yasmine Al-Bustami); Ernice (Jason Antoon), a cyber-intelligence specialist; Kate (Tori Anderson) an upwardly mobile Defense Intelligence Agency operative; Kai (Alex Tarrant) a local who helps the team out on occasion, having spent most of his adult life running but is now a NCIS agent; and the aforementioned Jesse, a former big city homicide detective who has settled into a new life in Hawaii.
The next scene in the trailer shows the team inside a warehouse, apparently doing an investigation as folding chairs and tables can be seen inside and several people. Suddenly, a large truck plows through the front of the warehouse, and the agents scatter! Jane then comments that when anyone on her team gets in trouble, that she is the first call. A gun battle in a smoky situation with the gunners wearing gas masks is next, followed by Jane telling her NCIS: Hawaii team that they haven’t had the pleasure of her full “we work as a team” speech, but they could guess the bullet points!

Jane Tennant Is The First Ever Female Special Agent In Charge
Longtime NCIS watchers will see that Jane is the first ever female agent in charge of a NCIS team in the field, although there have been several female directors. The flagship show NCIS featured Lauren Holly as Jenny Shepard, an NCIS director, and NCIS: Los Angeles has Linda Hunt as Henrietta Lang, director of the Office of Special projects.
However, these are for the most part desk jobs, although Hetty has been known to get right out in the action on the front lines on occasion. There have also been plenty of female agents on front lines across the NCIS franchise, but NCIS: Hawaii’s Jane Tennant is the first team leader out in the field on NCIS: Hawaii.
