TVLine recently shared a new teaser poster for the upcoming season, and the art leads me to believe that after the past traumas and hardships that Dr. Max Goodwin has been through, the new season’s theme may be one of healing for him.
New Amsterdam Teases Upcoming Series Theme
Fans of the show know that Dr. Max Goodwin has been through some personal chaos throughout the series, so much so that it’s almost like the man can’t get a breather. From his wife’s death, his daughter Luna’s custody, to Dr. Helen Sharpe’s indifferent behavior to his advances, it’s been one dark cloud to another for the character. Even Dr. Max Goodwin, who’s always fighting for other people, deserves a break, and let me tell you, I’m all up for it.
The series was created by David Schulner and principally follows Max’s struggles to create a positive change in one of the oldest hospitals in the United States. However, things didn’t go exactly as planned. During his earlier days in the hospital, he discovered that he has cancer while his wife was pregnant with their first child.
Things slowly began to get worse for the man in the following seasons. He lost his wife and his potential love interest Helen started seeing someone else.
But, the poster is hinting at a brighter future for Max, even as we saw him take off his wedding ring and kiss Helen in season 3’s finale. It’s predictable that the new season will portray Max as someone who is ready to move on from his sad past.
The new poster features Max’s face and the words “Love Heals” over it. During Q&A with TVLine, the series showrunner David Schulner stressed that the hospital staff went through an emotional toll in the last season, and that it would reflect in the next installment. He did confirm at the time that the next run would see some hopeful, bright moments, which hopefully is a clue that Max and Helen will find a new and happier beginning together.
New Amsterdam Season 4 Details
The series recently announced the addition of True Blood alum Michelle Forbes in a recurring role. Forbes will play Dr. Veronica Fuentes, described as a tranquil and fearless person who was brought in to remodel the failing hospital. Another new addition is Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist star, Sandra Mae Frank, who will be playing a deaf surgeon. Furthermore, the Blacklist’s Chloe Freeman will appear as a new resident in Dr. Bloom’s Emergency Department.
Fortunately, fans of the hit TV drama won’t have to wait so long now to get to know how Max and Helen’s life progresses from the ending we saw in season 3. The season will premiere on Tuesday, September 21, at 10/9c only on NBC. New episodes will follow weekly, with an average runtime of 43 minutes.
NBC is yet to reveal how many episodes the upcoming season will have, but we’ll be keeping you updated in the future.
