Life & Style just released a report revealing some behind-the-scenes messiness on Yellowstone after Kevin Costner exited. Even though there have been rumors about a Season 6 for the series, it sounds like there was some drama when fellow co-stars found out Costner would not be returning to finish the final shows of the series. Many felt that this would place John Dutton’s story in limbo.
“Yellowstone” Co-Stars Were Placed In A Terrible Situation
An inside source tells Life & Style that Yellowstone co-stars were, “… caught between a rock and a hard place because they want to stay in Taylor Sheridan‘s good graces, but some of them do really miss Kevin and feel like it was a huge mistake not figuring out a compromise.”
It’s been alleged that Costner wanted to return to the show to wrap up his character’s story; however, that did not happen. Negotiations are in the works regarding the sixth season of the show, but Costner won’t be a part of it.
“Yellowstone” Cast ‘Out Of Whack’ With Costner Not Around
The insider source continues to note that when Costner was part of the cast, he was considered the ‘undisputed alpha’ and ‘leader’; however, with him no longer around, things were ‘out of whack’ on the set of Yellowstone.
While this may not be that big of an issue for the show’s final season, as there were only several episodes to film and wrap up, if there is a Season 6 on the horizon, this could complicate things.
The source notes that a void was felt on the set when Yellowstone did get back into production. It was also stated that there was a divide among the cast, where some thought it was a big mistake to let Costner go, while others had a ‘good riddance’ attitude.
The insider seems to believe that Costner’s exit caused chaos, which would only get worse if a Season 6 went into production.
As of this writing, Season 6 for Yellowstone has not been confirmed.

Costner has made it clear that he was ready, willing and able to return but Sheridan seemed to think he had no duty to anyone but himself. He couldn’t or didn’t have the scripts ready in the time for which the actors, including Costner, were contracted. So they sat around with no work to do and had to be paid anyway.
Those actors who did not have other things happening in their careers were not bothered by this, they were happy to be paid twice I suppose, but those who relied on the contract conditions were then in a very difficult situation. It had happened too many times, there were too many extension, delays, come-back-next-weeks for Costner to continue indulging the unprofessional approach – especially as he had a crew and actors on payroll on his own, separate move. A movie about which Sheridan had known all along and which responsibilities of Costner he felt pleased to just ignore.
