Sara Ramírez Joins Sex And The City Reboot Cast

Sex In The City; Sara RamírezSara Ramirez, who has starred in Grey’s Anatomy and Madame Secretary will be joining the upcoming Sex and the City revival as a regular cast member.

The 45-year-old actor will play a non-binary and queer stand-up comedian, Che Diaz, hosting a podcast on which Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw is regularly featured.

According to an announcement made by HBO Max on Wednesday, the Grey’s Anatomy alum Sara Ramirez has signed on to star in the show titled, And Just Like That, as a series regular.

Che is a big presence with a big heart whose outrageous sense of humor and progressive, human overview of gender roles has made them and their podcast very popular,” the character description reads.

“Everyone at ‘And Just Like That…’ is beyond thrilled that a dynamically talented actor such as Sara Ramírez has joined the ‘Sex and the City’ family,” the show’s executive producer Michael Patrick King said in a release. “Sara is a one-of-a-kind talent, equally at home with comedy and drama – and we feel excited and inspired to create this new character for the show.”

Ramírez, who identifies as non-binary, rose to prominence with their role as Dr. Callie Torres on Grey’s but exited the show five years ago in 2016.

In addition to Ramírez’s casting announcement, the only other confirmed cast members for the SATC reboot are returning stars Sarah Jessica Parker, 56, Kristin Davis, 56, and Cynthia Nixon, 55.

The trio is among the show’s executive producers as well as reprising their original roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York Goldenblatt, and Miranda Hobbes, respectively. Reports state that Kim Cattrall, 64, will not be returning to reprise her role as Samantha Jones.

HBO Max To Reboot The Popular Franchise

In January 2021, HBO Max announced their intentions to reboot the popular franchise which originally ran from 1998 to 2004 on HBO and released two spin-off movies in 2008 and 2010.

Sarah Aubrey, the head of original content at HBO Max, shared that she’s excited to have fans revisit the iconic characters from the original series and movies as they’ll get to see how they have evolved since then.

“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor, and the beloved city that has always defined them,” Aubrey said at the time.
