Shameless spoilers and updates reveal the series finale is titled ‘Father Frank, Full of Grace,’ which might suggest a lot of things, including the major character’s death. The suggestion follows what was seen in Season 11’s penultimate chapter with its title ‘The Fickle Lady is Calling it Quits.’
Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy) was struggling to remain optimistic after his discovery of his dementia starting to overpower his bodily functions.
Shameless News – Frank Gallagher’s Severe Health Problems
If you have been following the series, you’ll know that this is not the first time Frank has lived through his health problems and drug misuse.
Frank was first introduced to the series as a single father with his debilitated family of six kids. While the patriarch was no good at looking after himself, much more of taking care of his kids, his irresponsibility compelled the children to be responsible to each other.
In season 4, Frank has survived a severe health crisis when he needed a liver transplant. It turned out the medical interventions had gone wrong when he lost his kidney instead in an illegal procedure.
But what fans have hoped as a turning point for the character, Frank soon returned to his old ways.
But the latest episode suggested Frank can’t control his death after all. The sixth episode of the latest season revealed Frank’s diagnosis of Alcoholic Dementia. Things are slowly settling down.
The scenes near the end of season 11 suggested Frank’s pain and suffering. He decided to ‘shoot up’ telling that he’d feel much better if he will. He also has written a letter addressed to the Gallagher family members placed on the mantlepiece.
But the message then fell to the floor as Frank did what seems to be an overdose of drugs and he ended collapsing on the sofa with his eyes drooping.
The showrunner of “Shameless” John Wells had an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year which also suggested the possibility of the main character’s death. To date back, John said in January 2020: “We love Frank, but we also don’t want to leave this show with the impression that there are no consequences to the way in which he has chosen to live his life.”
Meanwhile, the actor William H. Macy has been active on his Twitter talking about the series. The actor shared a post on March 8 empathizing with his character’s pain relating it to what his dad has gone through in real life.
The actor wrote in his post: ”It’s tough to watch Frank go through this. My dad died of dementia. #Shameless”
Shameless will premiere its final episode on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at 9/8c on Showtime.
