Showtime Boss Promises A “Graceful Landing” After Ray Donavan’s Untimely Ending: See Release Date And Details

Finally, Showtime has announced the approximate release date for the upcoming Ray Donovan feature-length movie.

The network’s Presidents of Entertainment, Gary Levine and Jana Winograde, revealed that Ray Donavan will hit the screens this coming winter, and not just that, they’re promising fans that it will be worth the wait. Are we falling for the hype? Maybe!

Levine clarified that fans can expect the film to premiere in the first quarter of 2022 – two years after the series’ abrupt ending enraged fans and led to a multitude of queries directed at the network.

The show ended after seven seasons, and its ending was such a surprise, not just to fans, but to the characters and the show’s writers.

“It’s a very difficult decision sometimes,” Levine said about ending the series. “In the best of cases you can plan for it, and it can be a nice gentle landing; Homeland had a beautiful finale in that regard as did Shameless, and sometimes it can’t be planned and circumstances just make the decision a little more abrupt, and sadly that was the case with Ray. I don’t think it was ending it after seven seasons— although some people would like it to go on forever— I think it was the abruptness of the cancellation.”

Liev Schreiber, who plays the titular character, Ray Donovan, in the series, went as far as to advise fans to voice their complaints to the network and try to convince them to let Ray Donovan conclude its story with another season.

The network listened, and while another season wasn’t ordered, they did sign on to have a feature film bring Donovan’s story to a meaningful conclusion. So a year after the fans campaigned for its continuation, the feature film was announced.

“It’s hard to describe how amazing it feels to those of us in the Ray Donovan family who have been lucky enough to experience the overwhelming love and support that you all have expressed for our show since the news broke that Ray would not return,” Liev Schreiber shared on social media. “What’s even more incredible is that it seems your voices have been heard. Too soon to say how or when, but with a little luck and your continued support, there will be more Ray Donovan. So to all the Donofans who got their bats out and beat the odds. Thank you.”

The upcoming film will begin right where the series left off, with Mickey on the run and Ray Donovan determined to find and stop him before he causes more harm.

Ray Donovan’s Spoilers – Showtime’s President Of Entertainment Hints At A Meaningful Conclusion

Gary Levine is not promising just any feature-length film or any old conclusion, but an ending that will be fulfilling to fans of the hit TV show.

“We did hear from fans, and we are nothing if not responsive to our audience. I think this Ray Donovan two-hour movie will go a long way to making that landing more graceful.”
