Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic was reportedly one of the new projects slated for TV on Disney+. Actually, last year, plenty of new projects were slated and fans looked forward to things like a spinoff for Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano. It sounded so exciting as they were said to end up in a massive crossover. Gina Carano was expected to star as a newly-appointed Republic Marshal. But it all came to nothing. So naturally, fans wonder why.
Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic On TV And A Game
The franchise doesn’t only churn out movies and TV shows, but it also spawns games. So, fans got excited when Knights of the Old Republic rumors emerged that a new project was being developed by EA. Of course, the new Rangers project was closely linked to Knights. Well, Kathleen Kennedy first talked about it back in 2016. However, not everything that Kennedy talks about sees the light of day. And the Rangers project for TV is one of those.
Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic was meant to stream on Disney+ and the news came at the Disney Investors Day presentation in 2020. At the time, a slew of other shows was mentioned. Fans fully expected more about the adventures of The Mandalorian’s Cara Dune (Gina Carano). However, she ended up getting fired, but is that the real reason why the new TV show’s been dropped? Recall, she got canceled when she made some controversial statements on social media about the USA and Germany.
Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic Completely Dead?
Now, it looks like the new show was dropped completely and it seems like it leaves nothing more than ripple behind. SYFY Wire reported that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy mentioned it in the 2021 review edition of Empire magazine. The outlet noted that she said, “We’d never written any scripts or anything on that.” However, she added, “some of that will figure into future episodes, I’m sure, of the next iteration of Mandalorian.” Well, if Maldorian continues without Gina then it seems odd that they would stop the project because of her firing.
Distractify argues that it sounds like a silly reason to end the Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic project. After all, the outlet pointed out. “Disney could’ve easily recast the part of Cara Dune. We’re sure that there are many actresses that would have killed to be a part of the Star Wars universe!” The outlet also argues that the Star Wars franchise could use more shows that bring in female leading characters. So, the outlet’s writer Katherine Stinson totally feels that the franchise should take another look at canning it completely.
What Are Your Thoughts?
Do you think that Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic was dropped simply because of Gina being fired? Do you hope that it eventually it makes to the screen one day? Or are there plenty of other options to engage fans of the franchise? Sound off in the comments below.
