Succession Casts Alexander Skarsgård For “Civil War” Themed Season 3

Succession, the HBO dark comedy satirical television series created by Jesse Armstrong has been renewed for a third season and True Blood Actor Alexander Skarsgård is joining the cast.

The Emmy and Golden Globe award winner will be joining the series as a recurring character Lukas Matsson, a successful, confrontational tech founder and CEO.

Alexander Skarsgård has been known for his starring role in movies like Battleship, True Blood, The Legend of Tarzan, and Big Little Lies. The actor has previously been tapped to play dark and often disturbed characters because of his, according to Rotten Tomatoes, mysterious magnetism.

At the end of Season 2, Brian Cox (Logan Roy) was ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall (Jeremy Strong), and he begins this new season seeking to secure familial, political, and financial alliances as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war.

Skarsgård, who is just finishing his role in Stephen King’s limited series update of The Stand, joins another Season 3 guest cast that includes Hope Davis, Sanaa Lathan, Linda Emond, and South Korean singer and actress Jihae.

Three previously recurring stars have been promoted to series regular in the upcoming season notably Justine Lupe (Playwright Willa and Connor’s girlfriend), David Rasche (Waystar CFO), and Fisher Stevens (Waystar communications exec/crisis manager Hugo Baker).

Succession took home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series last September.

Succession Season 3 Details

Production for Season 3, which was delayed for months as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, is underway in New York.

In the last update from Waystar Royco, Kendall Roy escalated the family power struggle to unbearable levels.

Directors for this season will include Lorene Scafaria of Hustlers and Cathy Yan of Birds of Prey.

The HBO MAX series is likely to be released later this year according to a trailer released by the network. It was later confirmed by HBO’s chief content officer, Casey Bloys, in an interview with Deadline, that the movie is expected to drop in the fourth quarter of 2021 as long as everything goes according to plan, and by according to plan, he meant no more COVID delays.

“But that would mean we don’t get hit with any COVID delays,” he said. “A lot of that will depend on how the vaccine rolls out, how much a factor COVID is. It’s still very much a real thing in production at the moment, hopefully, it gets easier to deal with. It’s hard to predict right now.”
