Suits – Creator Stunned At Streaming Popularity

Aaron Korsh, who created the USA Network legal drama Suits, says he used to believe that the show didn’t receive the popularity it deserved. But then came a revolution via streaming. And he proudly tweeted a report that Suits scored on top of Nielsen’s chart of the top 10 streaming programs for its 12th week, noted TV Insider.

“I always thought we were underestimated,” wrote Korsh on social media. “But it turns out, even I underestimated #Suits. It’s good to be the King.”

And by scoring on top of Nielsen’s streaming Top 10, Suits has earned the most overall No. 1 finishes on the chart. It even outdid the Netflix thriller Ozark, which previously held the record. Together, Netflix and Peacock users streamed Suits for 2.36 billion minutes for the week of September 4 to September 10.

Meet Suits’ Competition

However, the legal drama does face competition. For instance, Virgin River took second place with 1.92 billion minutes of streaming viewing, followed by One Piece with 1.39 billion. And the live-action movie The Little Mermaid scored 1.37 billion, with S.W.A.T. at 1.04 billion.

The rest of the top 10 included Bluey, Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, Cocomelon, and The Big Bang Theory. Virgin River and One Piece also scored atop of Nielsen’s chart of top 10 streaming original programs. And trailing them were The Wheel of Time, Dear Child, Only Murders in the Building, Who Is Erin Carter?, Ahsoka, Special Ops: Lioness, Futurama, and Disenchantment.

Suits also created a new viewing time record for an acquired series on streaming. And it accumulated 3.14 billion minutes of watch time between June 26 and July 2. As a result of those statistics, some fans hoped for a reboot.

But over the summer, Korsh shared with his social media followers his views on a reboot for the legal drama. And while recognizing that Suits turned into a success story on streaming platforms, he also felt that the nine seasons finished all the loose ends. One viewer shared that Suits “wrapped up everything beautifully.”

And the Suits creator shared that he agreed with that viewer’s opinion, noting that he didn’t “really disagree” with that comment. But he also noted that few reboots turn into success stories. However, Korsh revealed he did feel open to the idea of a prequel. And he shared that he “would still do a prequel explore young Robert Zane [Wendell Pierce’s Suits character], fresh out of law school in the early ‘90s.”
