The Characters We’ve Lost So Far From ‘Yellowstone’ Season 5B

The Characters We've Lost So Far From 'Yellowstone' Season 5BTwo years of wait was not wasted when ‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 arrived with more drama than we can handle. But I think it’s the second part of the fifth season that’s keeping us on the edge of our seats.

As we trickle down to the very last episode of the epic Paramount series, there’s a lot of untangling that the showrunners will have to do so as not to keep us hanging.

But, let’s first revisit some of the show’s most shocking moments. Starting with Kevin Costner‘s John Dutton’s death. Did you actually see that coming? I feel like somehow we should have.

What ‘Yellowstone’ Creator Taylor Sheridan Means By Major Character Colby Mayfield’s Death

‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 Episode 12 launched another character’s death: Denim Richards’ Colby Mayfield.

The nail-biting death of Colby, who is one of the ranch hands, may have been mourned by viewers, but according to the star Denim, the character’s tragic death had a more deeper meaning than fans might have conjectured when they watched that moment.

According to him, Colby’s mode of death was chosen because creator Taylor Sheridan really wanted to emphasize “the realities of cowboy life.”

Richard continued, telling Entertainment Weekly, “We have this saying that everyone’s going to fall off a horse at some point in their life. These things do happen, so I do think that there’s that element where I think it is about really wanting to emphasize that this is a reality. It’s kind of poetic because in season 3, Colby gets trampled by a horse multiple times in the river.”

What Fans Think Of Dawn Olivieri’s ‘Yellowstone’ Character’s Death

Fans were wild when they watched John Dutton die at the hands of a hitman sent by Dawn Olivieri’s character Sarah Atwood. But they were readily appeased when Sarah shortly followed Dutton in the deceased list.

It also didn’t take long after John’s son Kayce learned that his father died at the hands of Sarah for the show’s leading “bitch” to meet her own demise at the hands of a gunman. You can bet that fans celebrated her death. “Ding dong, the b— is dead. Justice is coming!” one enthused on social media.

Yellowstone Spoilers – John Dutton’s Death Shouldn’t Have Been A Shock To Fans

And now we’re at the most important death in the series so far: the death of one John Dutton in Season 5B episode 9.

This was the most hard-hitting death in the series so far and drove a major backlash online, but according to one of the show’s directors, Christina Voros, it shouldn’t have come as such a massive shock.

“I was reading Twitter and it’s strange the number of people who seemed upset that John Dutton was killed off, despite knowing that Kevin himself said he wasn’t coming back to the show,” Voros told The Hollywood Reporter during an interview.

She continued, “I think even in the face of that information, people don’t want it to be true. And in a weird way, it’s life imitating art. There were a lot of people who were outraged that John was killed — and you’re supposed to be outraged he was killed. The characters are outraged that he’s killed. So in a strange way, it is the point. You are not supposed to be OK with it.”
