For three seasons, we had been led to believe Serena’s husband, Fred, was sterile and that is why The Waterfords needed a handmaid to produce a child for them. In this case, that handmaid was main protagonist, June Osborne. Heck, Fred and Serena didn’t even have marital relations anymore. That is, until they took their little road trip into Canada.

The night before Fred and Serena were arrested, they made love in an old farmhouse they were staying in. This could have left Serena pregnant. But perhaps she also spent some offscreen time cozying up to Tuello, but then tries to pass her baby off as Fred’s.
