Wheel Of Fortune seems to be going through changes faster than Vanna White can turn letters. First Pat Sajak shocked fans by announcing his departure. And then Wheel Of Fortune announced that American Idol host Ryan Seacrest would replace Sajak.
But amid the host swaps, Vanna White’s position has sparked speculation. However, a new report hints about the Wheel Of Fortune letter-turner’s fate. Find out the details below.
Will Vanna White Leave Wheel Of Fortune With Pat Sajak?
Pat Sajak recently revealed his plans to retire after 41 seasons on Wheel Of Fortune. And that sparked speculation about who would replace him. Some thought that letter-turner Vanna White deserved and would get the promotion. However, execs chose Ryan Seacrest to become the new host instead. As a result, Sony Pictures Television has begun negotiations to keep Vanna on the show, sources told People.
“They are in negotiations with her,” confirmed one insider. “And would like to have her back.” Since 1982, the 66-year-old has teamed up with Sajak, 76, on Wheel Of Fortune. But when the 41st season ends, that partnership will conclude as well. Earlier this month, Sajak shared his decision to retire.
“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” posted the Wheel Of Fortune host on Twitter. And Pat called the experience “a wonderful ride.” But he added, “I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)”
However, Sony Pictures Television’s EVP of Game Shows Suzanne Prete revealed that Sajak agreed to serve as a consultant on the game show for the next three years. And White posted her own thoughts on the change. “When we start @WheelofFortune, who could have imagined we’d still be at it 41 seasons later?” she asked Pat via Twitter. “I couldn’t be happier to have shared the stage with you for all these years with one more to come. Cheers to you, @patsajak!”
Vanna White Compares Herself To Barbie
But Sajak’s departure makes Vanna feel depressed. And she admitted that she hates contemplating Wheel Of Fortune without her co-host. “I can’t imagine,” confessed White. “Everybody relates Wheel of Fortune to Pat and Vanna. We’re like Ken and Barbie, you know?” And Vanna pointed out that the duo have “been in everybody’s homes for 40 years, so it would be weird having somebody else turn my letters.”
But while Vanna thinks that her future on Wheel Of Fortune seems “weird,” upcoming host Ryan Seacrest views his new gig as wonderful. And the 48-year-old American Idol host gushed that he feels “truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak.” But he seemed to take it for granted that Vanna will remain.
And Ryan shared that he “can’t wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White.” Meanwhile, Sajak shared his support for Seacrest. And he wrote on social media, “I’m looking forward to my final season starting this fall, and then handing over the car keys to Ryan Seacrest in September of 2024.”
