Yellowstone ‘1883’ Star Amanda Jaros Teases ‘Hideous’ Character!

Filming the Yellowstone prequel “1883” turned into quite an ordeal for one star, Amanda Jaros. But the actress recognizes that the show has become beloved for its authentic depiction of that era. As a result, Amanda told the NY Post that she actually went all out to stay true to her character, including volunteering to look “hideous!”

Filming Yellowstone Prequel Meant Survival Of The Fitness!

Looking back on her experience shooting the prequel, Amanda confessed that the conditions felt “crazy.” For instance, the actress experienced “winds so strong that some of the cast and crew tents went flying. Freezing cold temperatures, sweltering heat. One stunt double got hypothermia in the cold waters.”

But Jaros feels no regrets. And she believes that the benefits of “putting yourself through difficulty and surviving” even outweigh the pain. To portray the heroine Alina, Amanda began with a three-week cowboy camp. Think that sounds like fun? 

Riding, roping, and a rugged environment tested the star’s endurance. And the intensity along with her unusual request made her sometimes unrecognizable! “But I told the hair and makeup department, ‘Go ahead and make me look hideous!’ Trust me, Alina was not concerned with how she looks.” 

Ultimate Sacrifice? ‘Don’t Shave Your Legs!’

As a result of all those dramatic weather changes, it might seem like Amanda made the ultimate sacrifice in shooting the film. But she confessed that she viewed a different challenge as the biggest one. “I did struggle with my vanity on this show,” admitted Jaros. And that struggle resulted from getting forbidden to shave under her arms or her legs! 

That rule came from the Western drama’s creator, Taylor Sheridan. And it lasted for five months due to the need for filming close-ups. “Sure, it became uncomfortable. It was fine for Alina,” pointed out Amanda. “But I wanted to wear tank tops on my days off.”

As a result, the night that the show wrapped, the actress celebrated by dashing to the shower to shave! But she also shared that she views even that sacrifice as worthwhile because of the experience. For instance, Jaros got to work with “1883” stars like Sam Elliott, Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw. And with cameos from acting legends like Tom Hanks, the show provided a fabulous experience for the young star. 

“They’re all delightful,” summed up Amanda. “I had the privilege of working with Tim and Faith from the beginning of cowboy camp. They were always so kind.” And she praised them for agreeing to do the show to make Taylor Sheridan’s vision into a reality and a “real team effort.”
