Yellowstone Spoilers – Bids Farewell To Kevin Costner
Kevin Costner’s exit from Yellowstone will unavoidably impact creator Taylor Sheridan’s plans for the popular series. But Sheridan won’t let any personal emotions about Kevin’s departure impact Costner’s character of John Dutton. However, the Yellowstone creator admitted he feels “disappointed” via People.
And Sheridan, 53, pointed out that Costner deciding to quit Yellowstone “truncates the closure of his character. It doesn’t alter it,” added the show’s creator. “But it truncates it.” However, Sheridan feels enthusiastic about a spin-off featuring Matthew McConaughey.
And Taylor noted what could lie ahead in his vision of the Yellowstone universe. For instance, Sheridan pointed out “lots of places where a way of life that existed for 150 years is slamming against a new way of life. But the challenges are completely different. There are a lot of places you can tell this story.”
Yellowstone Spoilers – Taylor Sheridan Makes Yellowstone Vow
Kevin Costner, 68, reportedly initially wanted to cut down his time on Yellowstone so that he could work on his four-part Western film series, Horizon. And then Paramount Network revealed Yellowstone would end following the second half of season five. However, the timing depends on the Writers Guild strike.
But the question of whether Costner will return for final scenes wrapping up John’s story line remains unanswered. And rather than criticize Kevin for exiting, Sheridan chose to praise the actor. “His creation of John Dutton is symbolic and powerful,” noted Taylor. “And I’ve never had an issue with Kevin that he and I couldn’t work out on the phone.”
However, the scriptwriter did note that Costner’s film “seems to be a great priority to him and he wants to shift focus. I sure hope [the movie is] worth it,” added Sheridan. “And that it’s a good one.” But in the wake of the actor’s exit from the series, Taylor made a vow about the character’s fate.
And Sheridan promised that John will not get eliminated in a dramatic crash. “I was killed in a f—-you car crash!” teased Taylor in a reference to his Sons of Anarchy character David Hale. And he added, “I don’t do f—-you car crashes.” But Sheridan then turned serious, clarifying his plans. “Whether [Dutton’s fate] inflates [Costner’s] ego or insults is collateral damage that I don’t factor in with regard to storytelling.”
