John, portrayed by Keven Costner, took a bullet, His daughter Beth, played by Kelly Reilly, may have been in an explosion, and John’s son Kayce, played by Luke Grimes, hid behind a desk avoiding a hail of bullets at the close of season 3.
So, as season 4 begins fans naturally have some questions, like: Who was responsible for the violence? Was it Jamie, upset at learning he was adopted? Who survives?
Well, the first couple of episodes into Season 4 of Yellowstone and we have a few answers.
Yellowstone Season 4 Spoilers – Right Where They Left Off
Season 4 of Yellowstone doesn’t skip a beat, picking up right about where it left of in season 3.
The intensity level hasn’t waned in the slightest, so prepare to hold onto the edge of your seat for the first few minutes as Rip (Cole Hauser) finds John lying at the side of the road.
He’s managed to use his own blood to write down details about the van his would-be murderers drove Kayce comes from behind the desk and takes out the shooters he was hiding from.
Rip calls and fills Kayce in on what happened to his father while Kayce tells him to get everybody to the ranch.
John and Rip are an hour from the hospital and John probably wouldn’t survive the drive, so they send a helicopter for him.
Beth walks from the wreckage of her bombed office building, as if rising from the dead, and coolly takes a cigarette from a bystander.
After grabbing Kayce’s son Tate (Brecken Merrill) back at the ranch, Monica (Kelsey Asbill) is attacked by an intruder.
Though she fights back, it’s actually Tate that shoots the attacker.

Then Monica grabs young Tate and the two of them split.
Outside, ranch hand Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) sends the two to the bunkhouse.
After seeing John off to the hospital Rip returns to the ranch only to discover that his cabin has been burned down.
Refusing to back down, Kayce goes after those who shot his father, ramming their van with his truck and after the dust clears and everyone is down, we discover that Kayce has been shot.
John lives, but he spends time in a coma and has to take great care not to move to quickly and dislodge a blood clot to his heart.

And ultimately, John returns to the bunkhouse to apologize for the attack and to thank everyone for protecting the ranch.
