The show’s main stars Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler), Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), and Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater) were featured recently at Deadline’s Contenders Television event. The show stars discussed the upcoming season 4 and expanded on the show’s cliffhanger ending for season 3.
Yellowstone Spoilers – The Cliffhanger
“Yellowstone” third season finale ended last August with the Dutton family crushed from all sides. The patriarch John Dutton was gunned down by a drive-by shooting, his son Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) was literally dodging bullets from a pack of intruders, and his estranged son Jamie (Wes Bentley) shut his doors to Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser).
To top all of that recipe to make Rip angry, his beloved Beth (Kelly Reilly), disappeared into an explosion in her own office. These all happened as a result of Jamie’s discovery of his adoption and a murderous biological father who was guiding him so that he can run the Dutton Ranch.
The upcoming season will be about Rip’s time to settle scores with enemies as Hauser hinted at his potential to be violent. He reported that the title for the first episode will probably be “The Wrath of Rip.”
“Everybody’s in danger in Montana after that,” Hauser teased.
First And Only Love
The show creator and writer, Taylor Sheridan, has impressively woven both action and romance into the modern-day Western plot in the previous two seasons of the series, which ended with high ratings.
The show’s resident star-crossed lovers, Beth and Rip, have fans swoon over with their blooming romance. Actor Hauser revealed Rip has eyes for no one else. He is convicted they’re meant for each other.
“As far as Rip’s concerned, that was his first and only love from when he was 15 years old,” the actor told Deadline. “Time stopped for him… He realized how really special she was and what she could give to his life. But he has lost her a lot over time.”
Hauser admitted he loves what the show writer Taylor did for the couple’s storyline. Taylor made it a “slow burn” for Rip and Beth, which has taken them four years “to finally investigate each other as people, and how their hearts beat.” He added that it has been a pleasant experience with Kelly.
“We see them with all the other characters and then when they are together they just bring out a whole different color in each other,” Reilly agreed and called the pair “soulmates.” “It’s so beautiful these broken characters are finding some sort of home with each other,” she added.
Yellowstone Spoilers – Reflecting On Real Issues
The show has tackled real issues such as the threats that Native American women have experienced. They also incorporated economic struggles and suicide.
“It is raising awareness of conditions that have happened on reservations historically going back 400 years to now… there are serious issues that most people were unaware of. It is critically important for Native people in being recognized as being present, and not historical artifacts,” Gil Birmingham explained.
