Apparently there are talks of it happening. It looks like the Dutton family drama may not end with just season five, even though Kevin Costner’s character is gone from the canvas.
That doesn’t necessarily mean the series itself is over, the series would just shift focus to Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) respectively.
According to Deadline, this news comes after the on-screen couple were reportedly in talks to be on the upcoming Yellowstone sequel, “The Madison” which would star Michelle Pfieffer.
Yellowstone Season 6 – Going In With Tunnel Vision
When asked about the sixth season in an interview with Radio times, Reilly said, “I just care about finishing Yellowstone with as much passion and as much love as I can muster to put into it… I’m sort of prepping for that now, that’s my tunnel-vision thing that I care about most.”
As for an actual sixth season? “And what goes beyond that? There are discussions you know, Don’t believe everything you read. It’s just nonsense.” So apparently there are talks about a potential sixth season, whether it goes forward or not remains to be seen.
Yellowstone Season 6 – Fans Backlash In Costner’s Absence
There was a lot of pushback from fans though, on Kevin Costner’s recent exit. A lot of fans on X stated that without his character the show would quickly become boring.
Costner has stated that as far as he is concerned, he is done with the series for good. He even announced as such on his Instagram in a video stating “Hi everyone. I just want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon and doing all the things that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone – that beloved series that I love that I know you love – I just realized that a I’m not going to be able to continue season 5b or into the future.”:previously it was stated that due to availability issues, Costner would not be able to film but fans held out hope that there might at least be a good conclusion to the character, but now it looks like that won’t happen. “It was something that really changed me.” Costner said.
Yellowstone Season 6 – More Open To The Newer Fans
In spite of the backlash, some fans were more open and even stated that Reilly and Hauser needed their own show, “If we get a season six with Beth and Rip, I’ll contentedly sit in front of my TV for hours.”
So it’s pretty clear that not all fans think that a possible new trajectory for the Yellowstone series is a bad idea, some might even wind up enjoying it. We will just have to see where season 5B takes us. Stay tuned!!!
