Yellowstone Spinoff “Marshals” Premiere Answers Big Questions About Monica Dutton’s Exit

Yellowstone Spinoff “Marshals” Premiere Answers Big Questions About Monica Dutton’s ExitNow that Marshals has premiered, fans have burning questions that should have been answered. Why is Kelsey Asbille no longer playing Monica Dutton and why did the character have to die? In short form, the actress wasn’t available to reprise the role of Monica in this Yellowstone spinoff.

Kelsey Asbille Chose Not To Return

Per The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Spencer Hudnut, alongside executive producer Taylor Sheridan and Paramount made it clear that they went through all of the possibilities as a whole.

However, Asbille (who has booked a number of feature films since the original series ended), made it clear that she could not return to the role.

Therefore, a plan had to be devised to handle this situation. “When that happened, it cleared up what that thing was for Kayce … It wasn’t like Luke and I were sitting there saying, ‘We should kill Monica.’ It was more like, ‘If she’s not available for this, then what’s the best way to move on from that character in the least exploitive way?’”

Kelsey Asbille Has Yet To Speak Out

Kelsey has not spoken out about her absence from Marshals so her reason has not been clarified. Kelsey may have wanted to pursue other opportunities.

However, she may have truly not been able to get away because of her other bookings. The filming schedule of a network show can be grueling and that schedule could leave anyone in a tough spot.

Monica’s presence may be felt on the show in spirit at least. Death by cancer at least settles better than another murder mystery. However, Monica will be missed by the fans who have been looking forward to the premiere of the show.

Will Monica’s absence be hard for fans to deal with even though they chose to write it differently that fans may have expected?

What To Expect From Episode Two

The Luke Grimes led series is not going to look exactly like Yellowstone. Some of the stories will be long terms but others will be short-term story of the week plots.

As on other shows, some of the weekly stories can be very good. It is just something that fans will have to get used to for the longevity of the show.

Here is the synopsis of Episode 2 of Season 1: “Zone of Death” – As Kayce tries to embrace his new beginning, a Marshals op to stop a domestic terror attack lands him in a valley of buried Dutton family skeletons.

While confronting his past, he must also learn to ingratiate himself with his new Marshals teammates, on MARSHALS, Sunday, March 8 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ Premium plan subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*.
