Emotion was high as Days of Our Lives (DOOL) fans watched their last goodbye to Billy Flynn (Chad DiMera). He’s been around on the soap since 2014, and viewers love his charming but tortured portrayal of the character. For some reason, Billy’s exit seemed more emotional for fans than others who left. Read on for more details.
The Farewell Message
What made the exit even more emotional was highlighted by Michael Fairman TV. The report noted that Flynn took to social media to share a message with fans who followed him for over a decade. Flynn confirmed that the vibe on set was good. He wrote:
For the last decade, I gave my all to this character and to this show. I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to play Chad DiMera. Tuesday my journey with this character comes to an end. Was a hell of a run.
Saying Goodbye – The Last Scene
Certainly the decision by the writers to have Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie Williams) in the last scene with Flynn set his exit apart from others.

Instead of a big DiMera blowout, we saw a simple, sweet moment. Actually, many DOOL fans agree on social media that it seemed like a fantastic idea. After all, the two leading actors on Days of Our Lives brought a sense of history and the gaps that Flynn’s departure brings.
What’s Next For The DiMera Legacy?
We know how the daytime drama industry works; it just keeps on revolving. When one door closes, another one opens. So, while we remember Billy’s acting as Chad DiMera, let’s remember that the DiMera storyline continues on.
While Billy’s gone, if you don’t know, his role now goes to Conner Floyd. Of course, many folks know him as Chance Chancellor from The Young and the Restless. Swap-overs often happen in the world of daytime drama. So, it’s not unexpected news that Billy Flynn moves across to Genoa City to take over the role of Cane Ashby.

In fact, he already did, in a way. After all, he debuted on the show back in June last year as Aristotle Dumas. And he turned out to actually be Cane Ashby.
Fans Will Miss Him
Changing from one show to another never sits easy on soap fans. However, Flynn’s Y&R move clearly indicates an appreciation for his talent. However, that seems cold comfort for those die-hard Days of Our Lives fans. After all, Billy gave so much to the character of Chad DiMera with his winning smiles and expressive eyes.
While fans’ eyes are on what Conner Floyd brings to the character of Chad DiMera when he debuts in April, many of them praise Flynn for his time in Salem. No disrespect to Conner Floyd, but it seems that DOOL might never be the same without the old Chad’s familiar face.
