Did fans get it right when they speculated that Blackpink’s Lisa stepped into Genovia with its Queen? Well, we’re all over Julie Andrews and her subtle hints about the speculations. Royal protocol anyone?
Julie Andrews Says She Believes Anne Hathaway Would Still Be Great For Another “The Princess Diaries” Installment
In 2001, the “Princess Diaries” premiered, inspiring a sequel titled “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement”, which was released in 2004.
It’s been twenty-one years since the franchise ended and Julie Andrews, 86, is not ruling out a return to the aristocratic world that is said to have inspired a thousand sleepovers.
During a Thursday evening red carpet appearance at the AFI Life Achievement Award at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, the actress talked about a potential third film.
Speaking about the possibility of a return to the fictional Genovia for another movie, Julie Andrews told Entertainment Tonight: “I don’t know, I think I’m the one — she’s probably still okay for it, but I might just be a little too old a granny for it, I don’t know.”
In the movie, Andrews played the former Queen of Genovia as well as Hathaway’s character’s grandmother.
“It depends what the story is, and if they can come up with something, that would be wonderful,” the star continued. “But if not, there will be other things.”
“The Princess Diaries” was the first hit movie Anne Hathaway starred in and it launched the then 18-year-old into superstardom.
Alongside Hathaway and Andrews, the film also starred Mandy More, Heather Matarazzo, Sandra Oh and Larry Miller.
How Anne Hathaway Celebrated the Movie’s 20th Anniversary
Hathaway marked the 20th anniversary of the coming-of-age romantic comedy in a special way last year by sharing a gallery of photos from the film.
“Miracles happen … Happy 20th Birthday to #theprincessdiaries, AKA the film that launched a thousand sleep overs 👑,” Hathaway wrote alongside the pics, including one where she posed alongside Andrews and director Garry Marshall, in which both women flashed a smile while holding corndogs.
Speaking about her “electric” connection to the script, Hathaway told PEOPLE in January 2019 that she knew the movie would be an instant hit.

“The Princess Diaries” is based on a book series by Meg Cabot, which told the story of how a simple, and sometimes clumsy, girl Mia Thermopolis – played by Hathaway – navigated instant royalty.
However, Hathaway said that while “The Princess Diaries” shot her to fame, it also restricted her roles at the time. She further recalled how she fought so hard to separate herself from the “princess” image Hollywood wanted to place her in in order to get more challenging and diverse roles.
