Karen Derrico Faces Serious Charges After Alleged Threatening Emails

The former Doubling Down With the Derricos star faces multiple criminal charges following allegations that threatening emails violated a protective order.

The Derricos from Doubling Down with the Derricos don’t seem to be very wholesome these days following the arrest of Karen Derrico on June 17. It’s not a TLC storyline. This is a felony case. Read on for more.

A Cyberstalking Case

The wife of Deon Derrico, and mom of 14 kids faces Category B felonies. Emails did the damage. A custody fight escalated into a criminal case. Nevada law says she could get 15 years.

And that could explain why they left TLC, and Deon said they looked for alternative platforms. Although neither TLC nor the family has publicly linked their departure to the criminal case.

In hindsight, it makes sense for show runners to distance themselves. But it happened with previous cases like Counting On and Josh Duggar.

The Alleged Crime

According to prosecutors, the alleged weapon in Karen’s case was a keyboard. NDTV and the International Business Times report that prosecutors say Karen sent threatening emails.

The timeline covers the period of May to June this year. The targets: Deon Derrico and their 14 children.

From media accounts, the emails weren’t all that subtle. Much like fans saw when the cracks started appearing on the show. Remember the drama at the new house?

Legal documents cited by the International Business Times show Karen allegedly seemed serious.

Prosecutors alleged that she told Deon, “I want you dead” and she hopes he “dies a slow death.

The words violated a Temporary Protection Order from April 2026. Under NRS § 200.575, violating a protective order upgrades harassment to aggravated stalking.

Prosecutors claim Deon genuinely feared for his life. That’s a family meeting nobody signs up for.

The Charges

Karen pleaded not guilty on June 23. Oxygen Digital listed the counts:

  • Count 1: Aggravated Stalking. Domestic violence tag.
  • Category B felony. Prison time: 2 to 15 years. Fine: up to $5,000.

The trigger: death threats that ignored a court order.

Then the next list included:

  • Count 2: Preventing or Dissuading a Witness. Also a
  • Category B felony. Also 2 to 15 years.

Prosecutors say she threatened her kids to stop them from supporting Deon in court.

Then, the misdemeanors. Harassment. Violation of a TPO. Each maxes out at 364 days in jail.

Potential Serious Outcomes

The judge will decide if the sentences stack or run together. Depending on how any sentence is structured, Karen could face substantial prison time if convicted.

Right now, Karen is out on $2,000 bond. She wears a mandatory ankle monitor. And no, it’s not a wonderful fashion statement.

The Defense

Karen’s team says none of this happened. Her lawyer, Jess Marchese, called the allegations “completely false.” He claims Deon manufactured the emails to gain an edge in their custody and property fight.

Expect digital forensics in the court case. Us Weekly reported that Marchese found a red flag. The emails came from a Windows PC. Karen doesn’t use Windows. She uses Apple products.

That could become major evidence if supported in court.

Karen Derrico’s team brought in a digital forensics expert to examine IP addresses, login records, and device fingerprints.

They aim to show that someone else sent those messages.

The Aftermath

Deon Derrico isn’t sitting there with his lips zipped. In the past few days, he chatted during interviews. Us Weekly, Parade Magazine, and The Sarah Fraser Show on YouTube all heard him out.

He described the fear in his household.

“It really alarmed and alerted me when my children told me that she had threatened to kill them,”

Deon told Us Weekly, “When they’re fig. hting within, no one wins…that’s the part that’s most disturbing.”

Deon told Parade Magazine that his daughters were so frightened they slept in his bedroom to protect him. He warned his mom, “GG,” that if he died unexpectedly, police should “look at Karen.”

He confessed conflicted feelings. On The Sarah Fraser Show, he said he loves her as the mother of his kids.

He also said he tries not to “poke the bear” regarding her mental health.

Oxygen Digital and the International Business Times noted the family’s long history of trouble:

Deon faced theft and fraud charges in 2013. A jury cleared him in 2018.

Their oldest son, Derron Derrico, is in jail. Robbery and probation violations.

The couple filed for bankruptcy five times. Capital One and American Express are currently suing them.

Fourteen children are expensive. Five bankruptcies suggest the family’s finances have been under pressure for a long time.

What Comes Next

The Derricos teased a new season for 2026. Instead, they got mugshots and tracking devices. Karen Derrico returns to court on August 6 for an evidentiary hearing. Three things could happen.

  • Dismissal. If the defense expert proves the emails were faked, the case collapses.
  • Plea bargain. Karen could accept a deal. Probation. Therapy. Loss of custody. No 15-year minimum
  • Conviction.

If prosecutors prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt, Karen could face prison time and the long-term consequences of a felony conviction. A felony record sticks. Her television career ends.

Conclusion

Courts treat digital threats seriously. Nevada law treats a keyboard like a weapon. For the Derricos, the family’s former feel-good television image has already suffered plenty of damage.

It also represents a warning about how quickly things break. About how much can fall apart for families who participate in TV shows.
