Holly Robinson Peete, Lyriq Bent, Nik Sanchez, Aloma Wright and newcomer Hilda Martin star as a family at a crossroads in Our Christmas Journey. According to the official Hallmark synopsis, as the holidays draw near, single mother Lena faces a challenging decision for her 18-year-old autistic son, Marcus. Her ex-husband Rick has secured an interview and trial weekend visit for a coveted spot at an upstate program, where people with cognitive challenges can flourish and gain some independence.

Lena does want what is best for Marcus but is concerned about whether the program is the right fit. However, she reluctantly agrees to give it a chance. Days before Christmas, Lena heads out with Marcus, along with her nurturing mother, Robin and sweet, but often overlooked, teenage daughter Maya.

The problem comes when the trial requires Lena to separate from Marcus for the weekend. However, she must learn to let go to give him the best chance of flourishing on his own. Meanwhile, over the weekend, Lena spends more time with Rick and many of their old feelings resurface. As for Robin, in the meanwhile, she gets to know Beth, who runs the guest house where they are staying and helps her to process a painful loss.

Meanwhile, Maya, who loves her older brother dearly, quietly struggles with the fact that he commands the majority of her parents’ attention. She goes on to befriend Beth’s son, Henry, whose sister is also in the program. As the weekend comes to a close, Lena sees her son, Marcus and the rest of the family blossoming in this special place.
